I'm relatively new comer to the game and am curious if anyone has a ny comments on how much poker is skill vs luck. 80 skill 20 luck or something like that? Anyone out there professional or semi-pro? How much do you make per week? It seems like the best one can do is to play conservatively (only enter in if the odds are stakced fairly high towards your hand -Fold everything else. Hopefully people will see that you only go to 4th street and beyond hen you have a great hand and then only further if your hand has improved. Maybe once in a while you can then bluff and get a little more when you have a nice scare card and people have realized that you dont mess around. What are your thoughts?

On page 3 you will see a heated post called "Lucky vs. Skill".

Yes, there is a very long thread on that already, and I just want to say this and then that's it....

Shorn, thank you for cleaning it up at the end there!

Thanks Steve, and Take Care.

Dave
(oh and by the way, I hear they still have an open seat for the
"Big One" at the WSOP......last call) !

No problem. A healthy combination of skill and positive skewness to you on your trip to Vegas. You should take that open seat!

Take care and keep in touch,

Steve

The standard for pros is that they average 1 Big Bet per hour. At a really easy low limit game you might make 1.5 or so. At the higher limits it might drop to as low as .5. But in general, if you play 10/20 you should be able to make $20/hour consistently over the long run.

Luck hits you in the short term by putting swings into your bankroll. Generally speaking, a winning player will never have a downswing go further than 300 Big bets.
