| ... being a newbie it was pretty cool. Played in a tourney at UB for a trip to Aruba this weekend. Did well. At the two hour break I was in 4th place. Even topped at 3rd for a short spell. Was on cruise control when I came accross QQ. Raised the BB from 1200 to 2400. Had a caller go all-in. I quickly called. He turned up 66. Flop came nothing but the turn was a 6. I thought I would have been devestated but I wasn't. My T13000 went down to T7000. I then just hung in to come in the prize money. Once I was in the top 20 for the prize money, I got 77. Wanted to go all-in until two players ahead of me went all-in. It was a tough choice but I folded it. Others had 99 and 88. So I made the right decision. But it hurt a bit when a 7 hit the flop and the 99 held up. Next hand I had QJs. Went all in. Got called by AJo. Flop came witha Q. Turn nothing. River nothing. And then the chips get pushed to my opponent. What?? Didn't even notice him catch a backdoor flush on the turn and river. Sonnofa...!!! Oh well, I was pleased to make it to 16th place out of 400. I know it ain't much but it was fun. And I can get a polo and a hat with my 8000 UB points. TK | ||

| Since the Aruba tournaments are so slanted to first place, it is a good thing to play for first here. Second place just gets another entry...when you are playing a satelite like this, it is important to adjust your play accordingly, and I think you played those queens ok. You happened to be right and it is too bad that your opponent hit his silly 2 outer. Keep plugging away at it and maybe you'll end up in Aruba with a couple of my pals. | ||

| Way to go! I'd recommend keeping some of the points in your account and playing the point sit n gos. They're good practise; they're fairly easy to money in, but you also have some decent competition from time to time. | ||

| Oh, I love the Sit and Gos. I think that is how I did well in the tourney. Out of 10 Sit and Gos I have gotten First place once, Second place three times, and third place three times. Have a good record so far. Thanks Wren. TK | ||

| Sweet. Great results. I find my SNG results are very streaky. I'll money in 7 out of 8 tournaments, and then not money again for 5 more. It's a little frustrating, but overall I'm up quite a bit. I nabbed Ray Zee's HiLo Split Poker book and Turbo Texas Hold'em with my UB points. I think I'll go play one now...maybe I'll see you over there! :O) | ||

| OK...stupid ring game player here. Is a sit n go a 1 table tournament? Also, what sites have multiple table tournaments (I know Paradise only has 1 tables). Thanks, Steve | ||

| I'm not positive, but I think UltimateBet coined the term "Sit and Go". It refers to single table tournaments that start up as soon as they fill; they aren't scheduled for any particular time. So you just go to a table, sit down, and the tournament, uh, goes :O) Many sites have multitable tournaments. Pokerstars, UltimateBet, PartyPoker, VCPoker, to name a few. And PokerPages has freeroll multitable tournaments that are great practise. | ||

| Sit and Go's are tournaments, but they can be single or multiple game tables. I've played single and multiple SnG's at Pokerstars, and single game ones at Lucky Nugget. I think the only thing for sure is that they are tournaments that start as soon as they have a fixed number of players signed up. | ||

| Hmmm... I've heard alot of good things about Turbo Texas Hold'Em. Should I save my points for that. I'd really like the hat and polo. (If only black was my color. Balding blonde guys just don't look that good in black.) TK | ||

| My opinion on TTH is that it isn't worth what they sell it for, but I am in the minority in that view...a lot of people really like it, including Wren. | ||

| Hmm...let me elaborate and clarify on this a little bit. TTH has a TERRIBLE user interface. They definitely did not think through this facet of the software. As an example, there is no menu option to save a game in progress. Stdio and I spent several minutes pouring over the menus and looking through help to find out how to save the game, as we knew there had to be a way. As it turns out, to save, you must first hit Quit. The program asks "Are you sure you want to quit?" You say Yes, and then it pops up a window asking whether you want to save the game. TERRIBLE!!! The help, as a whole, is organized fairly poorly. Some of the charts and graphs are also quite unintuitive. Stdio, I believe, cannot get beyond the crappy interface; he feels that the software is pretty much worthless because of it. I'm disappointed by this aspect of TTH, but seeing as it is the only full poker analysis/simulation tool available, AND it's been highly regarded by some of the great poker players and writers, I'm willing to dig a little deeper. I've learned that you can do some pretty cool things with the software, including stacking the deck (you can get the same hand dealt over and over in different positions and with different flops) and freezing the button (play all your hands, for example, UTG). I think combining the different options like this can be great practise for improving on problem areas. (For example, dealing with hands like TT and JJ in early position). TTH also provides a wealth of statistical data on your play, and the play of your opponents. Another feature of the software is the ability to create new player profiles. You can adjust the loose/tight and passive/aggressive players, and even tweak details such as particular hands they're willing to play in various positions. One thing I plan to do soon is create a lineup of Brantford 5-10 "regulars", play against them for awhile and analyze the stats. Should be an interesting learning experience. All in all, TTH definitely has flaws, but I don't think they detract from the software enough for me not to recommend it. I'd definitely say it's a better investment than a cap and a polo shirt ;) (especially considering the software retails for something like $90 AMD) | ||

| $90?? No wonder they wanted so many points for it. I think those books are overpriced too. Now I need to get TTH and master it just so I can feel all warm in fuzzy inside that I am better than Stdio!!! LOL TK | ||

| What version of TTH are they offering? The latest is 5.0, according to the wilson website- is that what you got? And I would DEFINATELY take this software over the shirt/hat, even with its flaws. I think it will provide WAY more value! | ||

I sent your criticisms to Bob Wilson, Easy E, 13. May 2003 18:06 | ||

| (didn't put your name on it) Generally, he said he had gotten some strong complaints about the interface, but not many. Rather than upgrading it, he's focusing efforts on the behind the scenes guts instead (which, I think you'll agree, is the stuff we pay for anyway) Maybe I have low standards, but besides switching to his new "internet table" view, I don't really require much of an interface with fancy pictures and graphics. My focus is on the play and advice and stats, to use as I need to. Anyway, thought you'd like to know. | ||

| Thanks Easy, It's good to know that Bob Wilson cares enough to respond quickly to comments and inquiries about his software. It seems he cares a lot about customer satisfaction. Perhaps I'll send him a note and detail all my specific concerns. When I refer to interface, I'm not talking so much about the graphics and overall appearance, but how user-friendly the software is. Some examples: Is it intuitive? Is it easy to accomplish common tasks? Is each important table/graph explained well? Is help organized effectively? I think that the user interface can be improved significantly with just some minor code changes. | ||
