I'm not a pro, but there are very strict reporting rules required in order to claim professional status and submit the taxes properly.

My advice? See a tax pro.

Also, IRS.gov should be able to help you out, but as was stated, I would suggest you to see a tax attorney that has done gamblers taxes or at least a CPA that is familiar with gambling taxes.

You have to claim your poker income as "other" unless you are allowed to file as a professional, in which case you can subtract your expenses. Part of the rules for that are that you have had three profitable years in the last 5 and that you keep meticulous records, among other things.

Of course if you live in Canada, it is easy, since you don't have to pay tax on money that you make "gambling".
