Do you guys use the pot avg. in your table selection and if so what do you look for?
Thanks

If there are several games to chose from, I would definitely prefer to sit in the one that had the biggest pots,(but the difference would have to be signifigant enough for me to base it on that).
I do look at the avg. pot size before I make my decision but sometimes the list for that game is much longer then the game that has the smaller pots. (so it depends on how long you're willing to wait). I would wait, but that's just me. Once I get a seat in that game, if the game is way too loose and/or I'm not able to beat it, than I will quit that game and play somewhere else.

Personally, I like the wild and crazy games, so I look for at least 50% of people to seeing the flop, and then I try to find the one with the biggest pots. The game I'm looking for is the one where I raise with a premium hand up front and get four to six cold calls.

However, if you are a newer player, these are NOT the games you want to play in! The fluctuations and suckouts can be brutal on your bankroll. The game you want to play in, if you are still inexperienced, is the one with a lot of callers but not much raising. These are, by far, the easiest games to beat, as your opponents will call you when you are in the lead, and won't charge you enough when they are winning, and also with lots of people in, you will have good odds on your drawing hands.

Thanks guys. The reason I ask is; I have been trying to come up with a way to judge by the avg. the games to join. I have come up w/ 6 times the big bet( somewhere close). Seems to have the right mix for me. Not too loose aggesive and not so tight as to let the rake and blinds eat me up. Of course, I take into account who is on the table. Whadaya think? Is that type of judement possible by any paticular number? I'm sure this is a very novice approach, but thought I would try it a while.

I too use the average pot size as an initial indicator of the nature of the table. Where the average is about 7BB, I regard the game as "typical". Tables lower than that is too tight and I avoid. Tables above that spark my interest.

If you keep records of who the weak players are, thats an added advantage. Successful poker players are predatory by nature and will seek them out.

I would point out that avg. pot size is not always a great reflection i am not sure it uses that great an average of last hands played ( it moves constantly by more than 20-30% of its previous size )

Without being a maths geek ( just kidding maths geeks ) i can't see how they use more than the previous 15-20 hands for an average, allowing for great deal of shifting in the average pot size. I always take a look at the game myself for at least 10 hands before stepping in, that way you arent stepping in blind and ( see post near this one called ' Another Hand ' for the relevence of this ).

Does anyone know how many hands they use as an average Mike, Roy anyone connected to the online game would you have any ideas ?

I agree. I am speaking of a game that tends to stay in the range I am looking for. You are right, the avg can be there for a few hands and gone. I will ck on the number of hands PP draws from. And yes, I give more weight to actually watching the game first.
Thanks Chase,
John

Avg. pot on planet is "detirmined by the last 30 hands played".

Yes. Look for very large average pots. This indicates a table where a lot of players are hanging around and signifies a table that is loose, the best kind of table to beat.

I don't think pot size is that important...Often games with large pots have very aggressive players in them...Passive players are much easier to beat!
