| just wondering what all of you think are acceptable starting hands for a low buyin no-limit hold-um game.... it is usually short handed, 4-6 people... very very loose, people might call preflop with 2 4 offsuit just because they've been getting lucky (and continue to do so) i thought if i just tightened up, and played the right cards, i could destroy the lucky players, but i just can't seem to make anything work. if i make a move, somebody calls and draws out, and if i tighten up and try to catch the premium hands, it seems i never help on the flop and they keep helping when babies fall. the game im in has achieved a weird dynamic over the past week or so, it seems that the players playing the wrong cards and betting on longshots are coming out winners.... i know the fish get lucky sometimes, but multiple sessions of this happening is becoming more than perplexing... i regret, i tilted a little on one hand, over played poor cards, and even i got lucky on the river. the poker gods are having fun mocking what i think i know about poker in this game ;) i apologize if this at all comes across as whinning or fishing for sympathy (its not, i know i should expect oddities like this at the table sometimes) just wondering if anyone has any advice, if they've played in as crazy a game as this. | ||

| make it expensive for them to draw out to those hands, law of averages will catch up. Also, be more willing to let go of overcards when facing action. | ||

| you have the right idea of tightening up in these games. I sometimes find myself playing in shorthanded NL games just like what you described. the strategy I use is to tighten up a bit on my starting hand requirements, the lowest offsuit Ace i will play is A9. other offsuit hands i will play is 10-9 and up Don't ever try to bluff these guys! Don't slowplay unless you flopped an unbeatable hand! You should be betting the amount of the pot only when you hit a strong hand like 2 pair or trips, otherwise play your top pairs strong but dont jeopordize too much money knowing that you could bu up against 2 garbage pair. PLAY YOUR HANDS STRAIGHT UP!Dont get fancy with these clowns Hope this helps It's made alot of money for me | ||
