| I'm not here to gloat. I just wanted to thank everyone again for all of their wonderful insight. Books are nice, but they don't answer questions or make suggestions like you guys do. I will admit, it was a free tourney over at pokerpages so the competition wasn't exactly world-caliber. But there were 310 entrys. Let me list a few weaknesses that 4 Poker, stdioh, shorn, flintsword and some of the others have helped me realize...

I was playing too many weak hands in poor position. Hands like A-2, Q-10 were folded tonight where I might have played them a week ago.

I tried to stay away from drawing hands as much as possible. I've learned that in NLHE, these hands drain your bankroll. It's nice when they hit, but you don't have the luxury of getting more chips if you tap out.

A-2 though A-10 was immediately folded after the flop if I didn't at least pair the board, make trips or landed the nut flush. A week ago, I would have played these hands for another bet, maybe two.

I laid down trip 9's after the turn. The player next to me got knocked out by a straight in last position. A week ago, I would have played the 9's till the end. Tonight, it probably kept me from getting the boot.

These are just some of the lessons that the great members here have taught me and made me think about. Granted, I don't always agree with everything that is said, but I like it when a post gets me thinking.
Thanks again. I know it might seem insignificant to some people, but I'm thrilled. | Great to hear it. Maybe you'll be the next natural poker player and we'll be watching you on ESPN in a couple of years. | ||

| That's great news Big_Slick. I think all of us are learning and improving from each other and your success is just one example of that. I just hope that the forum doesn't become so popular that there will be no fish left for us to hunt!!!!!! | ||

| Way to go! I played over 100 tourneys on PP and didn't win a single one of them :O) (A plethora of final tables, but no first. Wah.) It's tough to plow through that many people! Keep it up! | ||

| You're absolutely right that is hard to win one of these multi-table freerolls. I've also played about 100 and the only win was a limit Stud-8 event that I just got lucky and pounded the last two hands heads-up. I've had six other money finishes though. Strangely limit Omaha-8 and pot-limit hold'em were my strongest, I would not have thought so last year. | ||

| Yeah funny you should mention that...my first online freeroll tournament win was in Stud high, and my second was in Stud high-lo. And I consider Stud to be my weakest game. :O) These were both PokerStars High Seas freerolls. Soon after this, I won a couple Ultimate Bet NLH freerolls. But I never could muster a PokerPages win!! | ||

| I'm embarrassed to admit this... but this was my 5th or 6th tourney. My first NLHE Tourney was a week or so ago in the 10K freeroll at PokerPages. I came in 40th, evauluated my play and took another shot that afternoon. That time I came in 2nd. I'm trying to figure out if I was just lucky or actually have some skill. I lived in L.A. about 7 years and played 7-stud quite a lot. I was one of those players who thought he was a winner but was only fooling himself. In the last few months or so, I've rediscovered my love for poker. I've completely revamped my game and dedicated myself to excellence. Who knows... maybe it's paying off. | ||

| Players can go for a long time before even placing in a tournament, let alone winning one! (5 or 6 previous tourney's is great results!!) And yeah, of course you got "Lucky", you have to.(there is way more luck in tournament play). But that doesn't mean that your game hasn't improved either. By practicing and dedicating yourself to the game is the ONLY way to gain experience...and you have shown that... Nice Results. Congratulations! 4 POKER | ||

| Nothing embarrassing about playing a few times and winning! Congratulations! I came in first a few weeks ago in the very same tournament and those players play for keeps. For general interest, here is a list of those players that qualified for the round 3 tournament May 10th: http://www.pokerpages.com/poker-software/promotions/10k-2003/qualifiers03.htm | ||

| Wow, how did I get included in the list with 4 POKER, Stdioh, and shorn. Thank you very much and you are welcome! That said, congratulations! I will be off the forum for a while ... I am taking a break and going to Vegas for some rest and recreation. Good luck and keep grinding away at the rough edges of your play. Sharp play, like a sharp swords, need attention to keep a great edge. | ||
