"Stuey" and recent interviews, Brett Welch, 5. May 2003 09:50

This weekend I attended the Nashville Film Festival and I got to see "Stuey". For those that don't know "Stuey" stars Michael Imperiolli ( "Christopher" from the Sopranos, or "Spider" in GoodFellas) and is about the life of Stu "The Kid" Ungar. Unforunately, I do not know if this movie will make it for wide release. The movie had the feel of something that would be on T.V. not on the big screen. Compared to Rounders this would be considered a B-movie. Additionally, I think most experienced poker players will not like the way poker is portrayed in the movie. The best way to expain this is to compare it to Tall Tales of Pacos Bill and Paul Bunyon. Alhtough, I am sure that all of the events in the movie took place I believe that either the director or writter made the stories wilder to add to the general appeal of the movie. Lets face it poker as a whole is not that exciting for those not intimate with its details. I would still say this is a must see for die-hard poker fans. The life of Stu Ungar is one we could all learn from. Feel free to ask me any questions that I might not have covered I don't want to give to many details for those that will see it.

Additionally, I thought I would put in a link to NPR's interviews of Jennifer Harmon and Phil Gordon. This is pretty interesting and is conducted by a guy that is interested in becoming a professional. It last about 20 min. Go to www.thislife.org
There is a realone player icon you click on and the interview starts at about 21 minute mark so fast forward to there and it will load. Hope you guys enjoy it I did.

hey,
When i clicked on to the link I was unable to find the topic that you were talking about. It's sounds like interesting reading so if you can tell me what you did to get to the interviews with Jennifer Harmon and Phil Gordon, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
