| This question is for those of you who play professionally. Which places can a pro make a good living? Also, what about details, such as cost of living, things to do in that city, etc. Thanks, Kid | ||

| That all depends on what you're looking for. California has many poker rooms to chose from, all of the bigger ones being fairly close to each other. They have great games, all the time, they spread all limits and if you play 15-30 and higher, your food is comped. But the cost of living is very expensive. It's a beautiful place and has great nightlife. Atlantic City has two big poker rooms and they spread all limits and the game of choice is seven card stud and hold-em. I wouldn't live right in A.C., but the surrounding towns are very nice. The cost of living is about average, and the night life is decent. Las Vegas has several poker rooms that offer all limits. The games out there are a little tougher (many pros trying to grind out a living), but the cost of living is very inexpensive. The night life is... Well it's Vegas, what do you expect? It's nothing but nightlife! Connecticut- (Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun). Foxwoods has a huge poker room, they spread all limits, they play a lot of stud but there are plenty of hold-em games, too. Mohegan Sun has a smaller poker room which is about 20 minutes from Foxwoods. They spread a lot of mixed games as well, (hi-low, omaha, and hold-em) at the 20-40 level and up. Connecticut is very expensive and if you live close to either casino, the nightlife is next to nil. It's a very scenic area but there's really not much to do there. Minnesota, Canterbury Park, has a small poker room, 95 percent of the games are hold-em. The limits range from $1-2 to 15-30 on an average day. The games are great. The nightlife is okay, the cost of living (as long as you're not living in one of the major cities), is about average. Their winters are brutal though. (something else to think about). Arizona. Though I haven't played there yet, I heard the games were good and I believe they allow smoking. I am not sure on the cost of living or their nightlife. 4 POKER | ||

| Canterbury is my home card room. The cost of housing in MN is cheaper than either Conn or Calif. However, MN has one of the highest tax rates in the US. There is virtually no public transportation although there are some shuttles to the card room. Summers are lovely, winters are harsh. I can't speak to the quality of the games but I have been to the other locations and I would probably pick Arizona or Las Vegas. Where there are lots of retired folks there is generally good safe in-expensive housing and ways to live inexpensively. Retirees are usually on a fixed income and hunt out these spots. | ||

Although I was only in Minnesota for ten days, last year year being my first time there, I actually thought canterbury was a great poker room. Yeah, I was forced to play mostly hold-em, but the people were so damn nice I couldn't believe it! I was getting so burnt out from poker, put in a ton of hours last year and when I got to MN, it was the first time in a long time that I actually felt like being in a poker room and playing poker. The dealers are awesome there, everyone tipping $5 left and right and I even won a little bit so I was real happy. I wasn't sure about the transportation part, good point, but I did travel throughout the entire state and I think you're very fortunate to live there, it's a really nice place. take care, 4 POKER > > I can't speak to the quality of the games but I have been to the other locations and I > would probably pick Arizona or Las Vegas. | These are the places that I have been to that don't allow smoking at their poker tables: Taj Mahal, Tropicana, Bally's > Atlantic City, NJ Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun > Connecticut Canterbury Park > Minnesota Bellagio, Mirage, The Orleans > Las Vegas (If you are a smoker, I know of two places that allow it in Vegas, The Horseshoe and The Stardust). Commerce, Hustler, Hollywood Park, and probably every other card room in California as well. 4 POKER | ||

| If you were to play in Brantford every day and could beat the 10-20 (which isn't terribly hard) then you could do just fine as a pro. If you can beat the 20-40 (which is a tough game, but with some good chum) then you could make a fairly comfortable living. Brantford has a number of pros who do very well, but also lots of real 'action players' | ||
