Someone in the forum mentioned that pokerpages was offering a free tourny. It is designed to be 3 rounds with the second rounds starting this weekend.

I played this morning and came in 40th or so out of 300. I played again this afternoon and came in second out of 322. This means I get a seat in the second round. If I make it to the final table and win the whole thing, I get a $10,000 sponsorship into a tourny of my choice.

I'm not naive enough to think that will happen, but I am tickeled pink about my placing today.

I attribute my fortunate outcome to good cards and bad players. I'm not here to brag because I know how soft these tournys are. Just wanted to thank everyone here on the thread for their great advice and friendly postings. I used much of the knowledge I learned here on the thread to pound many of these softies.

Thanks again,
Lee

Way to go!

The PokerPages tourneys are fun. When I started playing online poker, I played exclusively on their software. Sure, there are A LOT of bad players entering the freerolls, but it's still really good practise. Pages used to rank the players on two different scales as well - I'm not sure whether they still do that, but it definitely added some "spice" to the competition.

Thanks Wren. It was only my second tourny ever so I feel very fortunate. I tried to play tight early but play aggressively when I had excellent odds. Later on, when I had a lot of chips, I still played tight but used my large stack to steal a lot blinds and pots.

I found myself really thinking on the fly quiet a bit. It was a great mental workout. There were scenarios I had never encountered before. I had never play NL in any capacity before... ever. So needless to say, it was interesting.

Thanks for the kind words,
lee

Lee,

Even playing against "bad" players beating 320 players isn't just luck, the cream rises to the top...good for you :-)

Yeah, but tell that to all the favourites who busted out in last year's final event at WSOP.
