Ok. I don't think this is an overly technical question and I am sure someone here knows the specifics. I am wondering if these online sites arrange the deck before the hand is dealt and then the hand is played out or if every card is randomly selected without replacement and the next card dealt is not determined until it is needed.

Though I wouldn't be surprised if there was variation, I believe that the accepted practice is to first arrange the deck and to then deal the cards. From a technical standpoint, there is a lot less that can go wrong when the deck has been enumerated previous to dealing a hand than when you are taking a card without replacement - for a concurrency standpoint alone, the former would be a lot more efficient to run quickly on a multi-threaded server environment.

Not all of the sites use the same technique or the same algorithm to randomly generate the cards, however for the research that I have done on the major sites. Most of them use a random generating algorithm throughout the entire hand. The simplistic way to picture this is to think of bingo but only using the 52 cards in the deck, the 52 cards are in the ball constantly getting shuffled, the players get there 2 cards, then the shuffle continues, flop more shuffling, turn, more shuffling, river.

That's interesting, I would have expected the entire deck to have been arranged prior to the first needed card.
