| Can someone give me a hand, I am trying to set up a small game amongst friends and I have no idea what to make the blinds and minimum bet? I plan to play for about $50 a person till we all get a bit more confident. The game is going to be Texas Hold'em. Regards James. | ||

| I suggest that you start off with 50c -1.00 The blinds should be 25c for the small blind and 50c for the big blind. On the flop the maximum bet would be 50c to start the betting off and on the turn and river card the betting would be $1.00. I think you should set the betting rules accordingly to casino rules"-- 4 raises maximum, and check-raising is allowed. try to keep it "real" so you can all learn the proper way of playing/betting and can understand all of its rules. I think that limit will be high enough if you're just starting out, and besides, if you are all starting with $50, if the game is played much higher then that, the game might not last as long as you would like it to. Good luck, 4 POKER | ||

| The limit should be no higher than $1/$2 (and as 4 POKER points out, probably $0.50/$1) so everyone will have at least 25 BB's when they sit down. In this game, the blinds would be $0.50/$1 with the flop bets in increments of $1 and the turn and river in increments of $2. Good luck. | ||

| I would suggest a ring game with limits of $1-$2 and with a 4-bet cap. As per previous posters' disagreement on the cap, some places cap at three raises (4 bets) and some at four raises (5 bets) - depends on where you are. I think that a 4-bet cap is more common. If everybody sits down with 25 big bets, then 75% of the people should be able to play for quite some time without rebuying. | ||

Hey, when I first responded I had said 4 raises, then I realized that it is 3 raises maximum but it's a 4 bet cap; meaning, there could be up to 4 bets but the raises allowed are still only 3. I'm just curious if that is what you were referring to because I know in A.C., foxwoods and on-line poker, the max raise is 3. please respond. 4 POKER > > If everybody sits down with 25 big bets, then 75% of the people should be able to > play for quite some time without rebuying.

| If I'm not mistaken, the Bellagio has 5 bet caps. I seem to recall some of Roy C.'s articles where he talks about 4-betting preflop without it being capped, etc. | ||

Yes, they could make the raise higher if they'd like but I would still tend to think that the 4 bet cap(3 raise max), would be better only because this is what I have seen at on-line poker,(at least at Party, Poker room and Paradise). I can remember when I first started playing on Paradise, they had the unlimited raises rule if you were heads up. This guy raised me 9 times in an Omaha8 game on the turn and was getting none of the pot!!... He had only one out to scoop me otherwise he gets scooped!...Don't worry, he got there! UGH. Anyway, that's how it was last year and I wish the poker sites would allow the unlimited raises heads up, but I guess too many players (inexperienced) were losing too much money. 4 POKER

| Brantford has a regular 4 bet cap, but when the action becomes heads up then there are unlimited raises. There was a guy who played for about 2 week there, whom we called "Ship it," because he really liked saying that. They changed their rules to let him play 7 blackjack hands at once. When he played poker he was an increadible idiot and I watched him go all-in preflop heads up for almost $800 on the 20-40. Stephanie ("stilettos") had AA of course and he had 78o. He flopped his up/down, but didn't improve and she took it down. This is a limit game, mind you, so there were ~40 bets preflop, but because it was heads up, this was just fine. | ||
