I need to vent - Bad Beat (?), johnny, 29. Apr 2003 07:22

I thought I'd be over this by now, but I still feel "on tilt." I was playing at PartyPoker last night in a 1-2 HE game. I was dealt 6 6. I limped in with 4 other players. Flop came 6 Q J (suits don't matter). I bet. Someone two to my left raises. This player all night had been aggressive, but not stupid. I put him on Q with a high kicker. Betting gets back around to me and I re-raise. Then he caps it. OK, he could have a set, but he's been aggressive enough that he could cap with less (two pair (QJ) or pair of Q's with an A kicker). I call. Turn comes a rag. I bet. He raises. I re-raise. He caps. I'm feeling confident now (whether I should or not) that unless the river pairs the Q or J, I'm winning. The river card is a 9. I bet. He CALLS (!!) and shows 8To. I could not believe it. He capped the betting twice with a gutshot straight draw. Then when he made the straight, he just called my bet. Did he really think I was re-raising with AT? I lost $15 on that hand. I was furious. I should've left the table, but of course, I didn't. I started playing "Hate Me" poker. "Here just take my money. I'm going to bet/raise to the river with 72o. You obviously don't need any quality hand to win this game." Well, I didn't get that bad, but I did give away a good amount of money after that I wouldn't have had I been able to see the computer screen through my anger.

Been there. In fact, I have seen some rather similar scenarios play out over the years, especially when a player bets crazy like that and then just CALLS when he makes his straight or flush. It truly boggles the mind, doesn't it, and makes you wonder if these morons are clairvoyant or something. OK, that might be going a little too far but you know what I mean. Just take solace in the fact that these types of players are losers in the long run, and it won't be long until your bankroll reaps the benefits of their ridiculous play. Better luck next time.

You will see many strange things in online poker. You have to love players like the one you mentioned in your game because they can be a great asset to your bankroll but only if you are able to maintain your discipline after those sort of beats and not go on tilt, then you become an asset to my bankroll, which I don't mind but you should. I can assure you that everyone that has played online poker or poker anywhere has sustained some mind boggling asswhippings that just leave you shaking your head, luckily it's just one hand at a time. Forget it and go on to the next hand and just keep the mindset that at each hand your even, money lost is lost and money won is won, it's in the past and should have no bearing on your next play. Good luck.
