hello,

I was playing online poker quite often now. I have booked
wins and lost my fair share. Now I would win say 200 bucks
and play throughout the day and loss another 600.
I guess my question is when do u stop and book a win.

tks for ur thoughts

The cards can turn on you so fast when you're playing on-line poker because you're simply getting involved in so many more hands, they deal out about ten times more hands that will allow you to get involved more then if you were playing in live game. And when you're playing in a live game I think you can notice it better when your chips start to dwindle. You just have so much more time to think and to truly focus on the whole picture. I remember one day I was playing in a 15-30 hold-em game on line, I was up $2,000 and then I took 3 tough beats in a row and before I knew it I was winning only $1,200. That may seem like it's still a pretty big win but to lose back $800 in a 15-30 game in less then 15 minutes was more then I could imagine.
My win came pretty quick as well now that I think about it and for the way I play which is fairly conservative, $2,000 was unbelievable, too.But you know what I do now, I don't play in the higher limit games anymore unless I play in a real card room. I stick to lower limits, I have less fluctuations and I have been playing more Omaha hi-low- I feel that game is safer for your bankroll. I think you might want to try playing in a limit that suits you, pick your favorite game, if you have a win in front of you, say $200, allow yourself to only give half of it back and then leave. Go back to the game a little later and try doing the same thing. Give yourself some time off to re-group, re-focus,
and to just take a break, period. This on-line poker plays like a 3 ring circus sometimes and you can get so caught up in the fun of it and the incredibly fast play that you can start to lose track of things and the purpose for why you are playing in the first place, $$$.
Keep in mind, that if your first session gave you a $200 win, to never allow yourself to lose more then that in the second session. I think the stop loss really makes sense if you're playing on line. Heck, you're at home anyway, there's no need to stay in a game and get burried; you lose a certain amount, get up, go back to it a little later. If you keep a real close watch on the money that is in front of you, you might be able to cut your losses down a little bit. When you have "real chips" in front of you, it's so much easier to look at it as real money opposed to when you're sitting in front of a computer just pressing buttons. Keep telling yourself that this is REAL money, that is what I do. If I'm playing on-line I'll put in anywhere from 3 to 4 sessions a day none of them lasting more then 2 hours, I just hit and run, hit and run. It adds up, it really does. And if I'm losing, I do the same thing as well, lose a certain amount, (and nothing that ever exceeds my average win, either) and leave the game. By me keeping my losses at the same amount of my average win means I'll have less fluctuations and my on-line bankroll will be less at risk.
Good luck to you.

Hi 4 POKER,

I am discussing this same topic in the thread Hey 4 POKER, and I am becoming more convinced that a hit and run approach to online play is a valid approach.
