Spread limit stud, Schuster, 26. Apr 2003 15:58

I got an invitation to a new $1-5 stud game with a $1 ante. I want to go and check it out, but I have very little experience with spread limit stud games. I'm mainly going just to meet new players and hopefully pick up on some more new games. My first thought was that the ante was high. Not my kind of game. I'd much rather be able to wait for stronger hands, but I think I can adapt. Second thought was I'm not much of a spread limit player. I figure with the ante that high, I want to win pots asap with strong (but not monster) hands, or course stealing more if they're tight and playing less if they're loose. Beyond that, how do I determine how much to bet? Do I attempt to put my opponent on a hand and calculate their pot odds and try to get them to make mistakes? Or do I just bet the full $5 every time? Thanks in advance!

I wouldnt play in that game. The ante is too high to really get into any thing but a loose assed strategy. cheats like a high ante to either whip saw or cold deck marks.

Well, I've been playing serious stud for about two years now. I reccomend reading Roy West for this. He is excellent in showing you the fundamentals of solid stud. From that you should be able to adapt your game.
