| Why do the producers of televised poker tournaments insist on having pseudo-celebrities comment along side the experts? If it aint Dick Van Patton, it's Vince Van Patton. First, do the producers of WPT really think they are going to attract "outsiders" by having a B-list actor on their roster? Let's face it, only poker players watch WPT. I can't imagine some old lady saying "I watch the World Poker Tour. I don't know anything about the game, but I just love that Vince Van Patton fellow." Furthermore, the guy tries to one up Mike Sexton (who I think is great by the way) and argue strategy! I can't remember the exact words, but my favorite exchange last night went something like this... Vince: "he should call that bet with 8-3hearts" Mike: "but 8-3 is a bad hand" Vince: "yeah, but they're suited!" Give me break. I would much rather have some ring-game pro comment or even have Mike Sexton comment alone. P.S. Vince, The term is "stone-cold" bluff, not "cold-stone" bluff. Go back to the nickel-dime games with the other out of work Hollywood "actors." I hear that Jerry Van Dyke is looking for a game... | ||

| Hey Chris. I will agree that they could have found a better co-commentator but it is a forgone conclusion that we will see him in the rest of the WPT's first year (as the taping has already been done). The decision was made by those involved that they needed a "Hollywood connection." The only thing I can say in his defense is that it is obvious he loves the game of poker. VVP continuing with the second year (assuming there is one), seems likely but remains to be seen. Those responsible need to do a better job editing. I think the public deserves to be educated correctly and perhaps by removing a few of his comments and maybe even scripting a few for him, he will appear a more knowledgeable commentator. I do however disagree with you about WHO is watching the WPT. After the Ultimate Bet episode, the numbers playing at the site went through the roof. You may have also noticed that Party Poker bought quite a bit of commercial time in the last episode. Apparently, the numbers watching the show go beyond the " solid core of poker players" in the U.S. Please send your feedback to the WPT website. Your comments may actually make positive changes in the show. You may only get a computer generated response or none at all, but I have been assured by one involved that they are getting read and being passed to the appropriate people. - Nathaniel Brous | ||

| I agree Vince is a real drag on the show, some of his comments are mighty strange. For some one who claims he has played the game, he needs some help. Some one talk to him please!!! | ||

| They were soooted....lol I don't know if Vince has to go...he definately needs to get better. I think in general the show needs to have a great deal of improvement across the board. There's a lot of small mistakes with editing, graphics, in addition to poor commentating. I think we all need to realize that they taped almost the entire season before the first episode was shown. It will take awhile before our comments catch up with the show (if they do at all this season). I would expect dramatic improvements for next season. Maybe they'll get new commentators, or maybe just give Vince some lessons during the off-season. My personal vote would be to have two experts as well (essetially one for play by play and one for comentary...I don't think it would be that difficult). Also, does anyone know what kind of ratings they are getting? I wonder if the show is successful it might get moved to a different network (Probably not broadcast, but possibly a different cable network, ESPN comes to mind...), this would only add to its success I think (and the growth of poker), since A LOT of people don't get the travel channel. jHE | ||

| as far as ratings-----Linda Johnson said at the taping last week at Bellagio that the ratings are excellent and the travel channel is very pleased. The more casinos and card rooms and---PLAYERS push it the better ratings wll become. | ||

| Oh, i guess ill throw in my two cents and comment that yes, VVPis a clown, but an entertaining one i suuppose. I dont think anyone in the know would be as upset with his comments if he and Mike didnt somehow manage to toss in at least two 'hollywood poker game' references in every show. I cant say that it adds any validity to VVP's comments in the slightest. Hell... if he's indicitive of the caliber of player in these 'hollywood poker games' then perhaps ill forego my springtime fishing excursion to the Ozarks this year, and instead see what i can reel in out in the land of fruits and nuts...
