play 7 card stud hi-lo because the game offers a lot of variables,a creativity if you will.It keeps you fresh.A lot of times holdem can get monotonous. The hi-lo keeps your mind working.Plus it can be profitable.

In most games a good player is looking to pick up a bet to a bet and a half an hour.Because of the scoop ability in Hi Lo.Thatcan rise to 2 or even 3 bets an hour depending on the game. Also most medium and high stakes players don't really know how to play the game well, especially when it's part of a mix.{S.H.O.E)

Yes I have a comment...
GOOD FOR YOU! You should know how to play more then one game.
A successful poker player knows how to play ALL games and WILL play all games. They give themselves the best opportunity to make money and by playing all games they have accomplished just that. If you're a really good hold-em player but are limited to just playing that one game, then you are cheating yourself from the possibility to make even more money. There could be several hold-em games one day and none of them could be any good- so isn't it great now that you can jump into the seven card stud 8 game?(May I add, most players really don't understand the full concept of high low, whether it be stud 8 or Omaha, so if you can master these two games you'll be a real favorite with a huge advantage. And isn't that sweet that you have taken the time and had the "brains" to learn these different games.)
Plus, it's good to broaden your horizons- it keeps you from going stale and it keeps your brain working.

Good luck,
4 POKER

7 stud hi/lo split is a very mathmaticly inclined game... a LOT more mechanical than other forms of poker... i would say its more monotonous than hold-um after a while. but you are right, it can be very profitable, because a lot of people don't know how to play it well, end up trying to go hi or lo, with just semi good hands.... and they loose a lot of money. there's a lot more dead money in 7 stud hi lo games i think.

I find that stud8 is very easy to crushify if you're playing against Bad Bad Poker Players, but almost impossible to beat if your opponents are competent. Split games are killer for rake, so you need to be head and shoulders above your opponents to play them profitably. The exception is when you are playing pot limit or no limit games where the rake is negligeable compared to the really big pots.
