Final Table Question, Dan Stallsmith, 22. Apr 2003 09:21

I am in a WSOP pool and we award points for finishes in the money, final table appearances, and wins. We have a dispute on what exactly a "final table appearance" is. The payouts tend toward a 9 person final table in hold'em events, but I suppose there are physically 10 people at the final table. For example, did John Juanda make the final table in the pot limit event that concluded on Monday?

Can someone more knowledgeable than myself help with a ruling? Thanks in advance!!!!

I would say that the final table is the last table full of guys sitting. Thus it would be the final 10 (or even 11 depending on the venue) of a hold'em tournament. Sure, the top 9 money, but the final table is 10 guys and one of them bubbles...he still made it there.

Similarly in WPT events they only televise the final 6. The final table is still 10, but the "television table" is 6.

So I would say that unless something was specified in advance, the final table is the last 10 guys nomatter if they pay 1, 9, or 10 of them.

What is the rationaille for having a commercial in the middle of a hand? That just sucks when it could always be edited in between hands. We're not watching soap operas, and don't need the forced cliffhanger.

yeah, that is the worst... i was personally thinking how much i hate a commercial, a hand, then a commercial. but your right, the commercial break midhand is the worst. I've been taping them, and i might just stop watching them when they first show, and just watching the tapes, so i can fastforward through the demo/commercial breaks....

stdioh, too bad, its not as high quality as WSOP, but its fun to watch every week. you don't get travel channel at home?

I don't watch television - one of those weirdos who thinks that it rots the brain. So I don't even have cable or a TV for that matter - but even if I did, Travel Channel is not regularly available in Canada.

I wish I could tell you I've seen a single eppisode of WPT, but try to find a bar in Ontario that'll play it. Most of them get their satelite by Bell Expressvue which doesn't carry the American Travel Channel and those with really decent satelite systems are all hardcore sports bars that are only going to show NHL playoffs and the likes. Sigh.

The thread got side-tracked. I see the argument for declaring the final 10 as the final table. However, someone said that the top 9 are actually declared the "final table" and even get jackets or something.

Any experienced tournament players out there??

A WSOP pool? That is a great idea. Brought it up to my buddies and they are in for it. Do they air the final table of the WSOP live? We can make a night of it. Only question is..... how should we run it? It there a way to obtain a list of all of the entrants? We could draw names out of a hat. Or should we wait until they have played down the field and then draw names? Hmmmmmm....

Thanks for a great idea,

TK

There are 5 of us and we ranked players from 1-20 and then randomly determined a draft order and then each person got their highest ranked person that was available. We ended up with teams of 5 and have point values for each event. It is great fun to look at results each morning.

If you post your e-mail address I can send you our template. It is certainly not all-inclusive, but I have a list of a couple hundred players to choose from. It also has the schedule and a point system per event.

Sounds like a good format but the guys I hand with that really do like poker and like watching it on TV probably couldn't name 5 pro players. (Me on the other hand, I could probably name at least 6!! :)

I think the easiest thing for our group is to just draw names. And hope one person doesn't get Jonny Chan, Erik Siedel, Phil Hellmuth, "Jesus", "Devilfish", and Matt Damon (is that all 6 that I know? oh wait... Damon isn't a real player, is he?)

That being said it might be easier.... much easier to wait until the second or third day.
