i bought some 11.5 gram chips, but they seem bigger than the casino. do they use 8.5 grams for poker? or is it just smaller all together?

most casino chips are 9.5 grams (or somewhere between 8.5-10 grams).... 11.5 are a lot heavier than what you would see in a casino. (i think i know the chips you got, do they have a dice design?)

they shouldn't be bigger in actual size though... i think the diameter of a regulation chip is something like 29.5 mm... maybe its bigger though, im sure about that.... ;)

Yup...they sound like the dice chips. They are damned nice and I love playing with them, but the one thing I can't stand is the way they click...it just doesn't sound "right" ... I think it is a little too high pitched...so when players are riffling their chips or clacking them or whatever it just sounds different and somehow bad .. go figure.

But yeah, the dice chips are the nicest ones you can get and definitely heavier than standard casino chips.

As for diameter, it might be slightly different for different casinos and different chips you can get, but the dice chips, the suited chips, and the diamond edge chips, as well as chips in major casinos that I've seen all fit into standard racks just fine.

And to plug my friend's business:
If you are looking to buy chips or other poker equipment in Canada or abroad, the best prices available anywhere on the internet are at www.pokerstore.net

speaking of chips... is it worth the investment? I probably have 4 games a week at my house... and have been playing with those AMAZING quality plastic bicycle chips (yeah... the ones from a walmart or target) yeah, classy i know. i would need about 1000 chips tho... i guess im holding out, because im playing with pretty menial chip denominations right now, and i dont think they would be worth anything to me down the road (i could just not get them stamped i guess)

i was looking at the suited chips... i could get 1000 for 240$ not a bad buy... *pondering*

I bought 1000 9gram plastic/chip composite chips for about $.17 each from one of the large chip distributors -- Gambler's General Store I think. They aren't quite the same as the high quality casino chips but they are many, many times better and nicer than the cheap plastic chips I used to play with. I'd recommend them for the home game -- unless you're really trying for the upscale feel of a casino.

I would also suggest that you NOT go for the 500 chip OAK case I bought. It was pretty but not very sturdy. Go for the 1000 chip vinyl so they'll hold all the chips. It won't look quite as nice but it will suit you better for stacking and unstacking 4 times a week.

I've priced chips and cases and I think Gamblers General Store is the cheapest. Their service was very quick and accurate. Of course it's also a good excuse to go to Vegas.

ill surf through gamblers general store a bit more... i was looking at some chips out of the mueller catalog... and if i was to buy more than 24 sleeves, each chip would end up being like 24¢ a chip, which is the best deal i've been able to find. but ill compare it to gamblers general store, and ill check out the vinal 1000 case, haven't run into one of those online yet.

yeah, that 1000 chip case from gamblersgeneralstore looks like what i would need.

if your looking for the suited chips, the best deal is from mueller (poolndarts.com) everywhere else wants about 41¢ a chip for these specificly, and if you get more than 24 sleeves of 25chips, your getting them for about 25-26¢ a chip (from mueller). granted, thats only if you want them strait up, not hot stamped. if you want 1000 of the suited chips, you can get them fro 258$usd.... the best deal i can find for these chips. +70 for that 1000 chip case... grand total of 328 w/o shipping... for 1000 chips and a case, thats not too shabby. (about 33¢ a chip overall.... still cheaper than buying the suited chips from gamblersgeneralstore 41¢ a chip)

You can get 500 dice chips in a really nice aluminium case from www.pokerstore.net for $340 Canadian which is $234 US.

I've found that in any tournament or home game of any kind with 12 people or less, I've never needed more than 500 chips. I went with 150 white, 150 red, 100 green, 50 black, 50 yellow. Yellows being nice because in a bigger tourney you can use them as 500's or 1000's and in a cash game they work nicely as quarters or halfs.

i actually have these dice chips. i was looking to get some Paulson Clay Poker Chips i think.

the dice chips aren't exactly the same as the casino. they are very nice, but seem just a bit to heavy compared to a casino chip.

What worked for me, was going on E-Bay.... Got 500 of the 9gram Clay chips, for $76 with the aluminum case, cards, dice, etc. Those are the chips I use, they have the exact same feel, sound as casino chips. Not as fancy as the Dice/Suited ones, but for the purpose they serve, they do fantastic. I now have 1500 chips, and we have plenty of colors to use for tourneys, etc. Also, when I won bid, I could request colors, and amount of chips.
Good Luck,

I bought some of the Dice 11.5 gram chips. I love them. But size wise they are slightly thicker than other chips. I got some chip trays and you can only fit 19 chips in a row comfortably or 20 tight with the last one sticking out slightly. But they are great chips. I got 500 for $150. And that was with some nice denominations on them. You can get them plain for $125. That includeds the aluminum case. I think the case is the same as all of them out there but is isn't perfect. Cheap asian product. You can see the weight of the chips pull on the handle when you carry it. I actually looked for mine on Ebay and then contacted the dealer directly by email. Got GREAT service. Mom and pop type business. Email is Finnetti@aol.com. I got 200 White $1, 160 Red $5, 100 Green $25, 50 Black $100, and 10 Pink $2.50 (for black jack). Had to pay around $0.28 a piece for the 20 extra chips. Also had to get 4 chip trays, 6 deck shoe and discard. I love it. And my friends love playing with them. Even got a cheap forest green table cloth that we clamp to the table to give it that extra feel. Especially since the games go from house to house.
