Did I read or hear somewhere that 20x the blind is a minimum for a wise buy in for limit games? (i.e. $8 big blinds should bring minimum of $160 to the table)

20 times the big bet, not 20 times the big blind.

I issue $200 at 5-10 or $400 at 10-20. A lot of players buy in for only $500 at the 20-40, but more for the convenience of buying one rack than anything...they then buy a second rack right away if they start to lose.

The important thing is that your stack is big enough to cover any bet, as you never want to be all-in on that monster pot where you're holding the nuts and everybody is jamming it. I start to feel really uncomfortable if my stack drops below 10 big bets and always put more money on the table then.

I agree, stdioh.
That sounds about right to me, too.
I always like to have just a little more chips in front of me then my opponents have- not to look cheesy or anything, just to look like a winner!! Table image and chip image are important and I would definately not want to be all-in at any time! That old saying,"all in never loses" is a bunch of crap- have enough chips in front of you so you can cover the hand entirely...Don't miss out on maximizing your win,EVER!!

Also, if your chips are getting low (relative to the pot sizes), put more $$ on the table even if you can't buy the chips right away. There is no worse feeling than having a cinch hand with no $$ to bet it.
