Why did I do it?, TKarrde, 21. Apr 2003 12:42 | ||

| Can't find time to make it to a B&M casino but finally had a day off (Friday) and was pumped to go. Have only played poker at the casino a few times and was really excited. Met a few freinds down there at 8:45am knowing that we needed to leave by 11:00 or so. When I get to the poker room. It was closed. Found out it did not open until 11:00am. I was so disappointed. Knowing that I would have no chance to play any poker I resigned myself to sitting at a Black Jack table with some friends. Why did I do it? I have no love for Black Jack. Although I do know the rules and how to play and when to split and double down. To make it short. I was willing to lose $100 at poker and ended up losing $130 at BJ. To compound a bad weekend.... I played at UB Thursday night. Had only my second losing session in which I got creamed at 25¢-50¢ tables for $20. And then played a $25 poker tournament with 5 friends Friday night. I read all kinds of poker books and articles and frequent this site. Yet I am still the first one out. I could whine about bad cards... but I won't. The table is a bunch of calling stations and maniacs. So hard for me to play with them. And they won't even let me "check-raise"... I won't mention the potty-mouthed ways they describe check-raising. Then I have to argue with one idiot who said that the WSOP doesn't use multiple pots when one person is all in and the rest of the table continues to bet. This was the same group that argued with me that you could use only 1 card in your hand in Omaha. Don't get me wrong. I had fun. They can just be difficult. Thanks for letting me vent, TK | ||

| First, don't play for any kind of real money with those assclowns. If some group is going to consistently argue the wrong rules, you'd better believe that they'll change their minds when it is in their favour. Second, blackjack can be profitable, but only if you learn how to count down a deck. It isn't hard, doesn't take much practice, and if you learn to do it then you can spend time well while you're waiting for a poker table...though I just read now. Blakjack has huge swings and is rather mind numbing, but most importantly, the poker is so good where I play I don't want to risk being asked to leave. Third, you can be the best player and lose first in a tournament. Think long term. | ||
