| I've seen people selling plans to make one, for cheap on E-Bay. May want to give that a try. RedDog214 | ||

| Hi Mace. I've built my own table and it is easy and cheap so long as you plan it well. I'll tell you what I did here. First, I went to Home Depot and bought a sheet of chip board (cheaper than plywood and just as good for this purpose) and drew semicircles on the ends of it using a felt pen and a piece of string. Thus we have an oval shape. I then had them zip it down the middle so that I could fit it through to the backseat/trunk of my rice rocket. I picked up some scrap 2X6 from them for nothing and bought a set of folding table legs from them as well. A bough a buttload of screws, a box of staples, a cheap saw, and a cheap staple gun. Then I went to a discount carpet place and bought 4'X8' of cheap water resistent thin carpet undermat. I went to a discount mill ends fabric store and bought 9'X5' of fabric for the top. I decided to let the 12 year old boy within me pick it out and got camouflage in a stretchy fabric. Construction of the table was then ABC. I cut out my semicircles and re-attached the two pieces by screwing in the 2x6 pieces across the bottom. I then screwed the legs into the 2x6's. To add strength, I screwed in scrap wood from the corners across the gap. Wow - that was easy. Then I put the undermat onder the overturned table and stapled it to the bottom of the tabletop, slicing it in many places so that it fit on the round tabletop without creasing. I used *lots* of stanples. Last I put the table upright and put the cloth over, stretching it and stapling it at the ends to the bottom of the tabletop. I went methodically and evenly and stapled it all around underneath, whilst keeping it taught. I used *lots and lots* of staples. I should mention that in the construction I used *lots and lots* of screws too. At the end I had a 4'x8' table with round ends that could seat a dealer and 11 players very comfortably and with folding legs to make it easy to store. It can bear a tremendous amount of weight and I'm pretty sure I could drop it from my 12'th floor balcony and it would bounce rather than shattering. It looks like a damn hell nice table and has the right amount of softness. It can also survive a beer spill due to the undermat and doesn't show much in the way of stains because of the camouflage. What I didn't do is insert a toke-box, dealer tray, etc, since it was for use in nonraked home games where we deal our own hands. Putting that in, however, would be no big deal...just cut holes and away you go. You can buy the trays at Dufferin Games room (or some equivalent). Total cost, including the purchase of the saw and staple gun was under $100 Canadian. (about $65 US) Total labour time was about 3 hours. Hopefully that helps. Just remember that once you motivate yourself to make the thing it'll practically build itself. The hardest part is getting materials and making the time to just do it. | ||

| I have been wanting to do the same. Let me know how it goes. But here is a cool site about making a poker table. A bit over my head... but a beautiful table! http://home.attbi.com/~jfalejczyk1/woodworking/gallery/tables_and_desks.htm TK | ||

| i dove into that exact project myself... i just built a 48" round table. i didn't use plywood though, i bought a high quality material, MBF. its similar, but is much stronger, and was a breaze to work with. i got 3/4", and i was planning on doubling it up, but found that 3/4" of an inch was plenty strong. cut the legs out of pine, you know, basic table stuff. things im having difficulty with are the felt. i was rushed, and bought this crappy craft felt, which, is worse than just using the mbf surface. so, today i ordered pool table felt, 80% wool 20% nylon.... i know it will be 200% better, but im not sure if its the "right" stuff. im planning on putting a nice vinyl pad around the outside once some legit felt is on. | ||

You can get a nice top cloth at the Gambler's General Store for about $11.50 a yard (54 inches wide) ($9.50 a yard if you buy the whole bolt.) Paul Stine College Station, TX | ||
