I need help with a certain type of player. This is what I wrote about him in my player book. BTW, it is an internet player. I play 1 / 2 limit.

DON'T EVER PLAY HIM TO THE RIGHT. He almost always calls and goes the distance and looks like 80% draws out. I suspect he plays for the fun of it and enjoys just being in the action.

Sounds like the ideal type you want on your right. If you have a good hand, raise him. If you hand is so so, fold. Consider him a "wallet-filler" ... Am I right pros?

I should have mentioned that this is hold 'em.

So you think I should tighten up with him. These limits are pretty loose until 4th street but this guy always goes to the river and calls all final bets. I know the adage that if he plays long enough he'll lose, but when he is winning, he is taking my money.

But I hear what your saying. If I have a good hand, keep raising him and he should get the message and it will cost him more to lose.

Thank you for your reponse flintsword!

Are you saying, "Never sit on his right", i.e. in front of him" or "Never play with him on your right", i.e. after him?

As a general rule, you want aggressive and unpredictable players on your right (acting before you) and passive and predictable players on your left (acting after you.)

If you know that a certain player is usually going to call, you have some information about him. You don't have to see him act before you to know what he is likely to do, so put the predictable player to your left and leave your right for someone that you don't know about.

Punish him for his loose calls and raises when he is on your right and fold your marginal hands when you are on his right. I would read the secion on relative position in TTOP too...this has helped me with how to handle different types of players.

important too note the diffence between aggresive and loose players. aggresive players to your right, and loose players to your left.

This is the kind of player you WANT at your table! If he almost always calls and rarely raises, you want him to your left. This applies more strongly to live games, because a lot of players who play this way telegraph their moves (for example, grab two chips when they're going to call, and hold their cards out loosely when they're going to fold). However, it applies in general because these players are a lot less likely to pull unpredictable moves, and you can continue to control the betting action without having position. Don't get into a mindset that a particular player draws out more than other players; in the short term, players like this can get very very lucky. I recently played with an elderly man at my 5-10 game who made 13 straights within about 4 hours of play. It became a running joke at the table. If he called someone's bet, a player would pipe up with "watch out - he's going to make a straight again!!" Funny things happen like this in poker, and you shouldn't play someone with the fear that they're going to draw out on you yet again. Play your good hands strongly, and if this player continues to chase gutshots and backdoor draws without pot odds against you, you will eventually get his money.

Right on Wren you want him to your left. Im surprised about how many people feel that players like this should come before you. It weak hold'em thinking like that. Your playing chicken if you need to see what he does. This player has already been discribed as someone that always wants to see what your holding. And exactly right again, this is the player your creaming your jeans over about at the table, cuz you want him there like you want pocket rockets 10 times in a row. But this guy, if he stays around long enuff will pay you off better then aces. With him to your left you have the option of checking, raising, you control him.
