flush versus fullhouse, Stuart Wild, 18. Apr 2003 14:14

Oke well here is a situation I would like to know if I make the right decision. I ám making my flush at the river. Pot odds are allowing me to play untill there. 3 players left inclusive me. Now early position bet. second bet. I raised. Than early reraised. Second call, and I call to. Pod odds.

I knew he would go for the full house. to leave the guesswork out, concerning to the pod I had to stay in.

What does somebody think about this?

thanks

I'm assuming you have a flush on the river with the board paired if this is hold'em, or you have a flush and both players have scary board cards if this is stud. You have to ask yourself if your flush is good enough to beat not only someone who bets and reraises, but also someone who could call two bets cold without knowing if you were going to make another raise. Meaning that if you don't have the nut flush after you got raised, you don't have much of a hand. Even if you do have the nut flush, you shouldn't be liking it either. A lot depends on how wild these opponents are and how the action on the earlier streets went, but I probably wouldn't consider calling that last bet against most players.

I think too many players stay in too long as the hand develops -- and then fold too often on the river. people (opponents) play crazy -- they bluff, they raise on a draw or a rush -- unless you know for a fact how your opponent plays in such situations, that last bet is often a good investment. I win a lot of money, even against house pros --bluffing and semibluffing on the river.

I do agree it's very player dependent. I would be more inclined to call if the player in the middle folded to the reraise, or it was already heads-up on the river. It's hard to generalize without some more specifics on the situation.
