best hold'em stats.?, magicurt, 17. Apr 2003 07:24

I am fairly new and focusing on one game for now, hold'em. I have read alot about statistics and math. There are so many stats available. What stats would be the most beneficial to comit to memory?
I find while playing there are so many things to consider that to jump in with to much would be distracting to what is important, playing my best. I do feel that some stats would be good mental exercise and important in the future. I see an advantage for that knowledge as opposed to guestimating odd of winning vs. pot odds etc.

Where do I start?(and why?)

By no means is this list inclusive, but here are a few essential ones:

7.5:1 to flop a set holding a pocket pair.
7.5:1 to flop at least two more to the flush holding suited cards.
1.9:1 to complete a flush draw by the river if you need only one card.
4.1:1 to complete a flush draw on the river if you miss on the turn.
2.1:1 to flop a pair or better with any two cards of different ranks.
5:1 to fill up by the river holding two pair on the flop.
10.5:1 to fill up on the river holding two pair if you miss on the turn.
2:1 to improve by the river holding trips on the flop.
3.6:1 to improve on the river holding trips if you miss on the turn.
10.8:1 to complete an inside straight draw on the turn.

Good list Andrew, I would also try to remember some of the more common odds with two cards to come (you can see the chart in the back of HEPFAP and probably other places as well). This will allow you to compute effective odds v. odds of making a hand. Calculating odds on the end is pretty simple but I'm not so mathematically inclined so as to be able to calculate odds w/ two to come at the table.

one question, what is the " HEPFAP"? I've seen it refered to on this sight before it but am unsure what it is.

Thanks
