Are there any casino's in Canada that offer other games besides hold-em?
If so, which one's, and where are they located?

Thanks

I was at the Casino de Hull a few years back, they didn't have poker at all.
Which casinos up north have our great game? I'll "settle" for HE...

Casino Rama in Orillia, Ontario has Hold'em. They have just started spreading one table tournaments too, but I haven't played in one yet. Brantford Charity Casino (near Hamilton) has Hold'em. They are licenced for stud and omaha, but have chosen not to train dealers for them yet. British Columbia and Alberta have dozens upon dozens of casinos, a lot of which spread hold'em. I hear very good things about the Elbow River casino in Calgary and the Yellowhead in Edmonton. The Holliday in Great Canadian Casino in Vancouver has a wonderful hold'em game (10-20 with full kill and only $3 rake).

It is, in general, hard to find a game spread in a Canadian casino other than hold'em though.

Oh, and somebody at Casino Niagara is talking about opening a poker room there, and if they do, it is absolutely sure to be extremely fishy.

Well, there are lots of small casinos up here. I don't know where there are poker games spread in Quebec, but Hull is practically a part of Ontario anyway, seeing as it is just over the bridge from [sn]Ottawa.

Oh, I just remembered too that there is a casino in downtown Hallifax that also spreads hold'em - don't know about other games though.

Hey, thanks for all the information.
I will be visiting Canada after the summer and I'm pretty sure my friend has mentioned Casino Rama, he lives in Ontario. You mentioned there was a casino in BC that spreads omaha; don't laugh, i'm really not that familiar with Canada's bordering provence's, but isn't that real far away from Ontario?
I was in Canada two years ago at the Ex (CNE), and they had this building on the premises that was set up for poker and when I walked in, I couldn't believe it, All hold-em; every table was full and there wasn't one game where at least 8 players didn't see the flop every single hand!
I thought to myself, "you are going to get burried"! Well wouldn't you know it, I look down at my very first hand only to find AA, and actually cringed at the thought of " how much am I going to lose with this one?! Needless to say It was mucked on the flop! (J-2 offsuit dragged the pot)! 3 bets mind you pre-flop! I think we'll try out Casino Rama, thanks.

Yes. The Ex (Canadian National Exhibition) runs at the end of August and they usually have about 10 tables all of hold'em 5-10 10-20 20-40 ... there might be higher limits - I don't remember. It is *very fishy* for the first week and by the end it is all sharky. Basically the sharks smell the blood in the water and all the tuna gets eaten, but it is a great game to play in when you're there for it.

As for Rama, it has died a lot in the last few months. They only run about 3 tables there now as the action game has moved to Brantford. B'frd opened its cardroom right after the last Ex closed and expanded it in about December. Now they've added a 9th table - all are hold'em. If you're ever coming up to Ontario, let me know and I can give you directions to Brantford and meet you there. I'm usually there about 3 times a week.

As for BC, yes it is far away. Form West to East, the provinces go: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland (Labrador), though the Maritimes (East) are all clumped together, so the order might be technically wrong there. Territories are in the North and are Yukon, NWT (North West Territories), and Nunavit. Indeed, only Canadians can say, "One fifth of my country is also Nunavit," or "The white folks get Canada and the natives get Nunavit." :)

Anyhow, Ontario is North of New York and BC is North of Washington State, for reference points. Kelowna is about an 8 hour drive from Vancouver (BC) and about the same distance from Edmonton (Alberta).

Oh, and if you are coming up to Brantford to play a little, I can give you a primer on which players to target and which to avoid at the high limit games. You'll want to stay out of the way of Kevin and Shampoo while beating up on Abdul, etc.

I'm glad that we ended the feud. Glad that we could get things back to a friendly note.

And yeah, we're a likeable breed up here.

I believe the old joke went something like, Q: How do you get all the Canadians out of your swimming pool?
A: Say, "Excuse me. Could everybody please exit the pool."

Canadians are real friendly and thanks for the new tone guys! I should point out that there must be a REAL serious Poker Club in St. Catherines (Ontario) because they keep sending players to the WSOP. Anyone know anything about this poker club? Their results at the WSOP? I live in Vancouver, British Columbia.

If you live in Vancouver then you have the best poker action in the Northwest -- all non-smoking too. Wish I lived closer. I had a blast playing at the Holiday Inn. $10/20 Hold Em was an aquarium.

I've been living near Montreal for 2 years now but am not aware of any casinos in Quebec that have live poker. On the other hand, the Casino de Montreal is worth a trip for casino aficionados. They have the usual - Black Jack, Roulette (mostly single zero i.e. French wheel), Craps, Caribbean Stud Poker, Let it Ride (known here as Grand Prix Poker), 3 Card Poker, Pai Gow Poker and Keno. As for the slots, I would stay away from them because the payback is something like 88-90%, quite low in comparison to casinos south of the border. And don't worry about the language - all of the dealers are bilingual, and if you're playing Black Jack, you can request that they announce the cards in English because normally they announce the game in French but do not mind aiding someone who doesn't understand the language. Hope this helps.

Back in my blackjack days I tried the game in Montreal. I don't remember the specifics, but I do remember that the rules were pretty stingy, so it wasn't a great game to play.
