Roy and Mike - how about a duel?, stdioh, 9. Apr 2003 08:04

| Hmmm...it seems that 4 POKER and I have been butting heads here these past few days. He claims to be a 10 year seasoned professional, but I call him a bad bad poker player. Obviously this has to end or the forum will be reduced to RGP and I don't think any of us want that. So I propose the following: Roy and Mike act as impartial judges in a duel of poker cleverness. Produce a short quiz with questions that increase in difficulty and email them to us. We could then have a day to come up with our answers and email them back. The questions, answers and commentary from you guys then get posted here the following day. I propose that if I win this, I will admit that 4 POKER is a superior mind to myself in the world of poker. If I lose, 4 POKER admits that he is a bad bad poker player. So does everybody think this duel is a workable plan? I think it could also serve as a very educational excercise for some of the more beginner members of this forum too. | ||

Other than I am not sure what you mean by "If I win, I will admit 4P is a superior poker mind" (should be the other way around), I think it would be fun and educational. Also, if you two ever hook up for a 1 on 1 internet match, I would DEFINITELY want to be a spectator!

| Oops! I misspake myself!!! If I win, I want 4P to kowtow and vice versa. Just a battle of wits for the sake of honour. Now I'm blushing a little from that error though. | ||

| Put me down as a spectator to that duel! The other way is to have you both enter five multitable tournaments at partypoker or bugsysmob and the higher ranking wins. If you are going to have a "friendly match", make sure it has lots of chips to overcome a short run of bad cards ... That said, it takes two to tango. | ||

| I'd be up to play a bunch of $5 freeze out sit-n-go's at ultimatebet to decide it, but I do think that the ability to answer abstract technical questions would be a better way to do it. No number of matches practical would be decisive enough, I think. | ||

| There's nothing to settle. Just use the forum to offer opinions and move on. Poker is a game where you keep score in private, only you know where your bankroll is at. No amount of heads-up play or other tests of prowess will solve anything. You both have ideas to offer, and I can learn something from each of you. I most certainly attest that contributing to this forum has had a positive effect at the tables. It helps to slow down and put thoughts in writing even if they are second nature by now, just as reading reinforces concepts. That's what this forum is all about, not a battle of wits. | ||

| Hi, I agree with both of you too, as well. I was simply voicing my opinions based on many years of experience in the poker world and the other two guys were voicing their opinions based on their experience with mathematics. We did chose to disagree on a few topics, and if we came across, or should I just speak for myself, by saying, If I came across harsh in any way then i apologize. There is no need for a "Battle Of The Wits" showdown as to me that just shows hostility, nonetheless. PEACE! 4 POKER | ||

| So be it, Jedi. I'm willing to lay down the sword here and have peace on the forum. Yo yo yo ... it's all good. I certainly have gotten a lot out of the idea sharing on this forum and I hope that my opinions have helped others. Also, this whole thing has scared me in that I realized that I started falling into a pigeonhole of saying, "This is the correct way to play this hand." I don't want to be a Slotboom. | ||

| Oh No! I unintentionally started this mess , but I would love to see either format. You all have helped me and I have additional questions as to your different approaches, but I think I will wait a day or two. It has been a great conversation. THANK YOU ALL JOHN | ||

| Hey Stdioh, I realize that your idea is meant in good spirit, but I feel that it doesn't exactly fit in with the UPF style that we have come to know (and love hopefully). It reminds me more of the r.g.p. (where egos become more important than the message). People will disagree. Just try to get "your" point across as best you can and then move on. Remember the adage, "You can lead a horse to water." Disclaimer: I have not been monitoring the Forum closely and don't really know the particulars. I simply feel after reading your post that avalanches are sometimes caused by small pebbles. Don't read to much into this, just some thoughts. Keep up the great posts. - Nathaniel Brous | ||

| Thanks Nathaniel. I think you're absolutely right. I don't want to be one to drag this forum down to the level of RGP or start some silly flame war. It seems that 4 POKER isn't interested in my challenge anyway, so I'm willing to let it all slide and put it to rest. | ||
