| Play online IMO is much better. The Wison software is way too easy to beat. The tournament holdem software set up with the structure of The World Series.....I can make the money almost every time, and make the final table a very high % of the time just by playing very tight. | ||

| I recently bought Turbo Texas Hold'em (wilson software) I think it's pretty good, I'm using it to practice my game. As SamDam said (and I agree) given your experience and success online TTHE might not be a good buy when you consider just the game features. However, he was speaking of the tournament version (which I also own), in the Turbo Texas Hold Em version you can run high speed simulations which can be of great benefit when deciding whether or not to play hands in given situations/positions/etc. Depending on how much you want to study the game, etc this may make the program worth buying. The AI is pretty good, there are a wide variety of characters which have both good points and bad points (as Easy E explained it to me, Bob Wilson wasn't trying to create perfect players, he was trying to create realistic players which represent what you will find in a given game). You can create your own profiles (in addition to the pre-programed ones) and work on changing variables (what cards to play when, etc) in your quest for the "perfect" strategy. If you're just looking to play the game then I'd suggest passing on the software (especially if you're making money online); however, if you find game theory interesting and want to "tinker" with your strategy (while not risking any money), then I think TTHE is definately worth the price. Hope this makes sense, feel free to email me if you have any other questions (jasonNOSPAMholdem@hotmail.com). peace, jHE (To email me remove capital letters) | ||

| I don't think the Wilson Software does much for your game by just playing poker with it. For a beginner I think it's fine, in the sense that you can use it like "flash cards" to learn the "right" moves. If your goal is to learn new strategies and reach a deeper understanding of the game, spend $100 on books instead. If your goal is to just have fun playing non-serious poker on the computer, play online or get another off-the-shelf casino game for $20 that will have better graphics and more games to play. If your goal is to do "research" of the type "What happens if I limp in with AK on the button versus raising at a tight table?" then Turbo Texas Hold'Em is your ticket, and in my mind the only reason to buy the software. The answers you get from this "research" need to be taken with a grain of salt, but I think you can learn a lot from it. I have the previous version of TTHE, and haven't bothered to upgrade, so maybe things are better now, but my edition has a terrible user interface. It's hard to set up scenarios, and editing play strategies is not for the impatient. But it can do the job, and that's what matters. With the software you can clearly see how starting hands change in value with different opponents, how a loose or tight table should affect your starting strategies, and the effect of the rake. It's all very interesting for nerds like me. I use the software as additional evidence when thinking critically about this-or-that strategy. The software may or may not pay for itself by educating you about the game. But I'm glad it exists, I'm happy with my purchase, and I've spent a lot of time tinkering with it. NiceFella | ||
