HOW MANY OF YOU FEEL THAT ON-LINE POKER IS HURTING THE POKER ROOMS IN THE UNITED STATES.
AND HOW MANY OF YOU NO LONGER PLAY IN THE CASINO BECAUSE OF ON-LINE POKER?
WHAT IF THE GOVERNMENT DOES AWAY WITH ON-LINE POKER?
WHAT WILL WE DO?
ON-LINE POKER TAKES BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS AWAY FROM THE CASINO INDUSRTY.
I THINK I WOULD BE LOST IF I COULDN'T PLAY ON-LINE ANYMORE.
IT IS SO CONVENIENT AND THERE ARE SO MANY PLUSES TO PLAYING AT HOME.
I JUST MISS ALL OF MY FRIENDS NOW BECAUSE OF IT, LAUGH, LAUGH, LAUGH!

I know that where I live (MA), the casino's in Connecticut are still doing quite well despite online poker. Every time I go down there, it is jammed packed with players. There are a lot of players that atill don't trust on-line, so I think the casino's are safe. I guess I look at it similar to the retail business...Amazon.com does a great business, but WalMart is still turning a nice profit.

Last I checked, the lights were still on in Vegas...

If anything, I think the opposite is true. Online poker introduces a lot more players to the game and in turn those folks go to their local cardrooms or plan trips to vegas etc. Also I think that a lot of the money the online cardrooms make is from people who either live to far away from a cardroom (like myself) or are not yet comfortable enough with the game (or limits, etc) to play live. In other words, a lot of the money they are "taking" from B&M casinos is money the B&M casino wouldn't be able to get in the first place, online poker simply fills a niche market.

if you consider that the B&M card rooms only control about 5% of the poker in this country alone. ANd the vast majority of players play in kitchen table poker games. and the fact that on line poker and live face to face are really birds of a different feather. I dont think Online poker could hurt B&M poker. and neither could touch kitchen table poker combined.

In fact I am trying to get a kitchen table poker game going in las vegas because the profit margin avalible to a non rake kitchen poker table player is at least double that of a B&M poker player given low limits and similar players.

I think the high rake, bad beat collection and dealer tokes do more to
hurt the casino than online play. Plus player unfriendly tournaments,
20 min.rnds with insufficient chips, to make it a crapshoot

The simple fact of the matter is this: Poker is a human game.

You can play over the internet, but all of the human element is lost and thus you end up playing more or less robotically. You can beat up on the suckers at a $1-$2 game online, but it is very hard to find a real live game at higher limits. You can't play $10-$20 online and expect to be schooling the table - most likely you'll be playing against only pros. I can turn my car onto Hespler Road and be in Brantford in a half hour and when I'm there I can take 1 BB/hour off of just about any of the 5-10 or 10-20 tables that come together. The only place where online casinos are going to kill business for the B&M cardrooms are with people who have to drive too damn hell far for a game.

I live in Las Vegas and I find that most of the card rooms here don't offer the limits or games that I want to play. On Line gives me a much larger choice of games and limits. And I don't have to leave home to play.

It seems that the majority of online players are playing for stakes much smaller than any casino offers. When was the last time you sat down at a brick and mortar to play some 0.50/1.00 Holdem? It hardly seems that this action is eating into any casino's coffers.

I've sat down at many tables and met new players who told me they've only played poker online previously. I think online poker is a great training ground for newcomers to learn the basics of play for a small investment.

Online poker is free advertising for the casino, and a breeding ground for fresh blood. In the same way that televising tournaments builds public interest in holdem, having easy access to internet poker builds interest in casino play.

It seems hard to believe that anyone who enjoys playing poker in a casino would willingly accept online poker as a substitute. Playing in a casino can be boring at times, and playing online is like boring casino poker with all the interesting parts removed. You're just left with the super-boringness of the boring parts. Do you follow me? Ever try to play online poker for 8 hours without picking up a book or browsing online?

Yeah, sometimes I play online to kill a little time. I get a kick out of single-table tournaments. But honestly, if I'm going to buckle down and spend 8 hours playing poker I can't imagine not going to the casino. Face-to-face poker with personalities, quirks, tells, hollywooding, and chit-chat is the only way to go.

And for the record, I think the regular online players who actually do prefer it to a casino are the tightest bunch of tightwad rocks i've ever tried to squeeze a chip from. For all the stories on this forum about loosy goosy games, in my experience it's a tough virtual world out there.

Just one man's opinion.
