Odd how one remembers that name after 20 years, but I owe him and my Higher Power (whom I prefer to call God) my life. I would have been dead years ago. How can I ever forget that last time 11/11/84.

Thank you for reminding me, David :-) I am now 71 and have outlived all of my family, and I was the oldest. My brother died just last November and he was 7 years younger than me.

The name rings a huge bell, but I'm not sure. Who is he?

I dont think David would mind my telling who Bill Wilson is, but first let me tell you that AA trumps AA :-) Pocket aces are the best starting hand in holdem, but the former AA is Alcoholics Anonymous, which is by far the greatest starters for a person with a drinking problem.

NA and GA modeled their programs on AA and its 12-step program. There are other programs out there for persons with various addictions.

I truely do owe my life to AA. If your life, my friends, is being controlled by alcohol, drugs, poker, etc., look into the various support programs available. Remember, the first step to cleaning up your life is admitting that you have a problem. Secondly, ask for help. How do you do that? Look in the phone book or ask around. These groups will welcome you with open arms. It is not a completely charitable act on their part because the 12th step in their program is helping others :-)

As they say at AA meetings: I am Jim D, and I am an alcoholic. Everyone will then say "hi Jim."

Sorry if this is off topic, but I know that many reading this need to know that life is not hopeless. Others care and will extend a helping hand. You owe it to YOURSELF! God bless.
