Do mediocre players have an advantage over top players in the earlier rounds of big NL tournements by overplaying their hands aggressively?. Idea is that top players rather wait for hge edge and don't want to be busted by a 'novice' when they are only a 2:3 favorite.

By definition, the best players have the edge. A lot of the time you will see a terribly player quadruple up their stack early on because of some lucky breaks, but for the player who did that, there are other fishy players busting out very stupidly. Sometimes you'll have your pocket aces and will get in on that fishy action and other times you will just have to wait. Nonetheless, there is no edge for the bad player.

That said, if you are in a tournament with rebuys, it is often sound to take big risks early on in an attempt to double your stack size and then sit on your butt. If the tournament is a freeze out then you should always start off playing tight.
