I am a consistent winner at no limit hold 'em, lately i have been playing low limit online. I can't seem to win. I play big cards and dont chase. I really need some tips from plays like me who have converted from NL to low limit.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Get Gary Carson's book and Cloutier's book on limit hold'em. These two have helped me the most, by far. The limit hold'em section of Super System and Theory of Poker are also very good, wouldn't mess with HEPFAP just yet, as some of the plays won't be useful in the low limit games.

Although you don't give a lot of info in your post, chances are if you are used to No Limit, you might be playing too tight with starting hands and perhaps slowplaying where inappropriate. You don't really trap much in limit game, you have to play fast when you have the best hand unless it's a complete monster. Also, you mention that you don't chase, this is a big mistake in the limit game. You SHOULD chase whenever you have the pot odds to do so, in the limit game, because you aren't really risking nearly as much as in no limit, where you don't chase draws because you might lose your entire stack, or get blown out before you see the draw through. A lot of your profit in limit is from actually betting when you don't have a hand yet, but you have the best draw and several callers. This also creates deception once people catch on that you will bet without a made hand, then you can nail them when you do have a made hand.

Hope this helps.

I'm strictly a limit player and only occasionally ventured into the NL world.

Just curious as to why people change from NL to Limit and vice versa. What are the strategic adjustments you have to make? Is there problems playing both?

I started off playing a lot of No limit but found there were not enouh games, so i switched to limit and show a good profit from this game.

In the past month i have played a bit of no limit ( on line though ! ) and seem to be getting blasted out of the water ! Analysing my play i think it is due to the fact that i am chasing too much and playing too many hands that i can play i limit ( ie 88 early or Axs on the button ) but losing with them in NL.

I find Limit to be a fairly automated game and that i have to concentrate a lot more in NL and that , to me, might be the biggest differnce

Comparing nolimit hold'em to limit hold'em is like comparing apples to volkswagans. They are completely different games. The main difference is the calculation of implied odds and the ability to fold out opponents. In a limit game, a hand like 7c8c has a lot of value against a large field. The reason is that you don't have to worry about a large bet being leveled at you so you can draw for the turn and river. When you are playing nolimit you hit your flush draw with a gutshot, but then still have to lay it down to a potsized bet because you don't have odds. By the same token, it is a lot easier in nolimit to bet on the come because you have implied odds that anybody calling your flop bet will call your turn bet if you make your hand and your turn bet can be very big. It is little things like this which pile up and make it a drastically different game. Of course the same talents and skills are used in both games, but they are very different in theory. If you're going to move from one to the other you need to do a lot of reading.
