Monday night at the Orleans no limit holdem tournament after the add on
Play was concertive to medium
I had big stack at my table $5500
I had KK
I was the small blind
blinds were $100-$200 betting $200-no limit
10 players at table
everyone folded to the player on my right a medium loose player with $4500 who called
I raised to $500
Big blind with stack of $2500 called
player to my right called
flop is j 10 4 rainbow
I bet $500
player to my left raised to $1000
player to my right raised to $3200
I thought player to my left had JJ
I thought player to my right was bluffing or semibluffing
I folded
player to my left folded
I am 95% certain I laid down the best hand

Why the hell didn't you reraise more preflop? Where you looking to trap the guy on your right?

That's what I thought too, could have made it 1000 to go. Raising to 500 lets some blind hands like AJ or AT look at the flop.

From the action, it sounds more like he was holding AJ, but if you think he had jacks then good fold. So why are you 95% certain that you laid down the best hand after putting him on a set?

That said, folding there is not the end of the world. Tournaments with expanded payouts are about survival.

I think you made a significant mistake in letting the BB in so cheaply. why not a raise of more like 800-1000? your small raise gives the BB reasonable odds to call with a variety of marginal drawing hands, and a raise also lets you play aggresively after the flop since you have represented a big hand. With your stack as large as it is, you don't need to be trapping people, you need to be bashing them with your stack and picking up small pots and antes.

Agree with Krause. Mow 'em down early when the blinds are increasing.
