another hold em scenario, David O'Connor, 26. Mar 2003 20:07

ok , i was at the 200-400 level of a limit hold em tourney online at TP. We were down to 18 players out of 40. I have TT in the BB. Theres a call, a middle player raises, and I call ( i had recently been moved to this table, and was not too sure how my oponents were playing). The flop comes all undercards, and i bet, and the raiser calls(i cant remember what the othere player did.) The turn is a rag, I bet, the raiser calls. The river is an Ace. I check the preflop raiser bets, the pot is huge now, and I call, and say a prayer. He shows me pocket aces, and made a set od Aces on the river. This takes mew from a little over 3,000 to 1600 in chips. all comments are welcome. tx-Dave

Cant be to disappointed with the outcome because you are losing ALL THE WAY.
You are lucky he didnt pop you on the turn!!! Then you lose even more chips. You played it out ok though, those type of beats happen.

thank you for your reply. It is true that i was losing all the way, and in hindsight i obviusly would have folded if i kneww what he had. but my problem was that i didnt. So, i would love to hear some comments on how you or other players would have played this hand before having the knowledge of what cards my opponent had. I sort of automatically put him on AK. ty, all comments are welcome-Dave

I think your opponent played the hand terribly. You had an overpair until the river and bet out both times. He should at least have popped you on the turn. No way I would have given you another shot at hitting your hand on the river. I think you played it well as you prevented Ak or other overcards from getting a free card and then you check called the river due to the size of the pot. You got the best outcome you could have hoped for with an inferior hand...you lost the minimum.

Sounds like the sort of hand you see every day at low limit hold em, you played it as best you could and got away with losing the minimum but the A's lost out on a few bets.

I think there are some hands that you cannot get away from this was one of them.

In the long run your opponent will lose as he will not extract the maximum from his winners ( at the same time i bet he pays off his losers ) and IMHO that is all there is to poker, making as much with winners and losing as little as possible with losers.

This is a fairly standard way to lose. You have an overpair and are a giant dog to a bigger overpair. When your overpair is TT, it is just a hard hand to play. You're probably good, but if you're not then you're drawing to a 2-outer. I'd say it is a hard to come out swinging with, but to quiet down if you are reagressed.
