Invest or **** it up the wall, Hatchet Harry, 26. Mar 2003 11:02

After taking the game up as a hobby, i'm now on the verge of having a $5K chunk o change which is totally outside of the missus's grasp. So I narrowed it down to 3 possibilities.

A) Have a week in Vegas to blow the lot (possibly WSOP week) on my own with the full blessin of 'er indoors' - I'll be payin you guy's off for teachin me the game!!
B) Fix it as my bankroll and draw any further winnings to buy luxeries for myself.
C) Up limits slightly and double it to a 10K roll. (or probably drop the lot!!)

Any thoughtful or amusin advice!

Cheers
H

I think I would choose option 2 as long as you stay at the same limits. Option 1 sounds fun, but I think you will be disappointed if you go that route. Option 3 is risky unless you think you are ready to move up...many more good players at limits 10-20 and above in my experience.

Being able to lose and say, "easy come easy go," it great, but don't plan to lose. If you want to go to Vegas for WSOP week and give a couple of the events a shot with your winnings, then sure...take the plunge and go for it. If you want to fix your bankroll and draw profit, super. If you want to build a bigger roll to play a bigger game, just make sure that you're able to play in that bigger game and beat it.

And think of it this way. You worked hard for that money playing cards and if you had fun too, that's a bonus, but the money is what makes it poker. Don't be too keen on blowing it. It is money, after all. It seems you're pretty happy to have some money that your wife can't get her hands on so maybe you should spend it on your mistress :)

Option A no question, whats the point of having it if you dont spend it ? Its only money and you will have a fantastic story to tell ( how you made 5K only to blow it on your one big shot )

" I could have been a contender ........"

Or have i seen Rocky too many times ?

I don't think that was Rocky. Maybe Raging Bull. Back to the topic, I wouldn't strictly do any of those choices in your position. Why not keep half of it at home and use the other 2500 to play some ring games and supersats at the WSOP? Then again, starting a bankroll over from scratch is something that most players have to do (at least once) in order to convince themselves that it is not a fun (or wise) thing to do. - Nathaniel Brous

"I could have been a contender" is a quote from ON THE WATERFRONT not ROCKY.

Hey i am too young to know better ! It appears my quote was out of context but Rocky is such a good film and a sweet analagy for your situation, imagine going to Vegas playing a satalite to the WSOP and winning it.

# Rising up, straight to the top # etc etc ( apologies if i have misquoted the song )
