Hi Jake,

I don't know much about Limit Hold'em (I'm from Ireland and we don't play Limit poker here), but I think I can help you regarding No Limit. In my opinion, A, K offsuit is not a "dangerous" hand in No Limit Holdem: it is a monster hand!

Unlike in Limit poker, the issue of high cards been suited has little influence on the strength of a hand in No Limit Hold'em.
Therefore, A, K offsuit is only very slightly worse than A, K suited in No Limit Hold'em.

I would argue that the most dangerous hand in No Limit Hold'em is J,J. (Players are often tricked into thinking that Jacks are a big pair: they are not....they are at best 50:50 against any real raising hand and could be in huge trouble).

J, J is the most difficult hand to play (especially pre-flop) in No Limit Hold'em.

Hope this helps.

Good luck

I think that the same concepts apply to limit, especially if you are in a loose game. The hands that are the biggest trouble for me are JJ and QQ, because I tend to get enamored with them as a "big" pair and then take them too far when I should realize I am beaten. I don't seem to have the same issue with TT and below...if I don't flop a set or overpair and there is any action, I am (usually, but not always) gone. Anyway, that's my trwo cents.

Indeed, TT is a great hand, so long as you play it well. It's a dangerous hand for a beginner. If you play it, you want to be against either one opponent or 5+ opponents. If you have 5+ opponents then you really need to play it like a small pair and stick to the no set - no bet rule. If you are heads up with it, then use your reading power and play your opponent hard with it, but be willing to chuck it if your opponent takes a shine to high board cards.

Anecdotally, Andrew Pierce did a study of all the bust hands in WRGPT (World Rec.Gambling.Poker Tournament) play that were available (4331). This most frequent bust out hand was QQ. Andrew's post is available through Google. I will not discuss the statistical validity of the list. Of course, this is a tournament setting.

Here is top part of the list:
total hands: 4331
1 182 QQ (most dangerous)
2 174 JJ
3 168 AKs
4 164 99
5 156 88
6 153 KJs
7 147 AQs
8 144 77
9 138 JTs
10 136 KK
11 134 AQ
12 132 AJs
13 131 AK
14 128 55
15 123 ATs A5s
16 120 KQs
17 115 KQ
18 114 TT
