I am interested in learning about the arrangement that they are offering you. Is it similar to the B&M deals out there?

The expectation at 3-6 is about $11 per hour. 2-4, $9 am hour; 5-10, $14 an hour. They pay per raked hand. They require you to play 1000 raked hands, about 20 hours, a week.

So that is in addition to what you are winning? That sounds like a pretty good deal if you are playing for a living. My thoughts would be go for it if you were already playing anyway. Sounds like a good way to make 1.5 BB per hour for doing something you are already doing. Am I missing something?

Well, basically, no...you are not missing anything. Of course you have to play in the games the house wants you to play in....generally short handed games. That's ok with me, I like playing in short games. Just wondering if I should modify my style of play somehow?

I would think it would allow you to be even more aggressive shorthanded than normal as you are already covered for a solid hourly rate. However, if you already like (and are successful) at SH games, then you shouldn't change too much. It just gives you a little more margin for error than you would normally have.

Well, I think I am going to spend the next few days reading up on short-handed play...if you know of any internet articles, let me know. Thanks for your input shorn.

No problem. The best short-handed piece I have read is in S&M's 21st century edition of Hold'em for Advanced Players. They have devoted a whole section to SH play which I have found to be quite helpful.

Good luck!

Just make sure that it is a reputable place you are dealing with. The problem with being an online prop player is that you are working for a startup that is not yet profitable, so there's a chance that you don't get paid at all.

A prop(osition) player is someone who contracts with the card room to play in assigned games for an hourly rate. A lot of card room, both real ones and internet ones, need players to get games started and keep short games running. These players use their own bankroll and play any way they want to, but they get paid by the hour. There are no stupid questions!

I responded to an ad on the net, but coincidentally, I know the prop manager from years ago when I lived in Las Vegas

Wow that sounds like a great deal. One more question though. Where is the downside to being a "prop" player? Are they used mostly at new sites or are there any reputable sites that already use them?

The downside is that the casino tells you which games to play in. So if there is a game full of big fish that you'd love to play in, but you're stuck in a short game with a few ringers, tough luck. So generally to be a successful prop, you need to be able to at least marginally beat any game there.

A prop player is a player that is paid by the house to play...Casinos use them to start games and keep games going through the slow periods!

Hi Shari

Yes, play good, be puntual and help them your employer get games going!

If you can get $12 an hour and beat the games for the same amount it is a 50k a year job!
