When is it time to move up?, SamDam, 15. Mar 2003 07:43

I was waiting until I had 100 sessions under my belt at this particular limit to get some opinions. At the limit I have been playing I have won 77 out of my last 100 sessions. My total win for this time period is approximately 600 Big Bets. Now, I will admit about one half of that came in one extraordinary run of 18 sessions in a row. My bankroll, assuming I do not go nuts, would be sufficent at well over 300 big bets at the next higher limit. Do I stay where I am and continue to win at a rate I am confident I can sustain or move up and take my chance? I am quite comfortable and usually content at the level I am playing although I see some play at the next level that is just as fishy as where I am playing now. I also have seen some very fine players at that level (as well as the level I am playing now). My main concern is I know the players at the level I am playing now VERY well and have extensive notes on them and I would have to start over at the higher level. Opinions?

Well...

Sounds like you're doing pretty well. If you're not confident about your playing ability (or at least not completely "comfortable") making the jump to the next limit, why not try splitting your sessions between the two...alternate between your current and the next limit for 100 sessions. It will help you adjust to the new skill level in the next limit while still playing for profit in your current level. Then when you feel more comfortable at the next level make the jump. Just my opinion, but more money is always better. :-)

peace,
jHE

Some times in the bigger limits not only to the limits increase but the Action does as well . In fact I think the this is true most times. 300U seems to be accepted as the minimum although I dont veiw this to be true on a wholesale basis It is a good standerd.

My friend who receintly took a stab at the 160 told me that not only did the limit increase 100% but the action also increased 100% . I suggested and he agreed without much hesitaion that a BR of what would amount to 4 times that required to play the 80 may be prudent.

If you are playing a normal Low limit game I would suggest you take a fair shot at the *next* level.

Hi Sam

You should take a shot! Sounds like you are ready for it and will make a good effort once you start. Starting a new set of notes will help your game grow. If you start to loose go back down to your confort level. However, If I had to guess, with the effort you have put in at the lower level, I would think you are going to be just fine!

I'd say go for it. Move up to the new limit and give it a try. If you've got a bankroll of 300BB then you will be pretty much unbustable so long as you are at least marginally winning there. So play 100 sessions there and see how much you end up making. If you were making 1 BB/hour at the lower limit then you only need to do half as well at the new limit to make it worth the move...and if you say that it is just as fishy then why wouldn't you make 1 BB/hour there?

Give it a shot - so long as you're playing with money you can afford to lose, then build your game.

It sounds like you are ready, although it is hard to measure BB by session. If you are winning more than 1 BB per hour over that many sessions, then I would say you can take the plunge. However, be careful...I have found that when i am playing at a loimit that may be slightly over my head, I tend to let the $$ amounts influence my decision-making which leads to less thn optimal play. Good luck.
