NL hold'em hand, Mark, 7. Mar 2003 10:54 | ||

| This happened yesterday and i can't stop thinking about it. I'm not tilted or anything, but very curious. I would really appreciate everyones thoughts on this. GAME Online No limit hold'em. $50 max buy-in, blinds .25-.50 (planet poker). MY IMAGE ( as i believed it to be) Tight aggressive and winning considerably. i was showing down many strong hands, and some hands just strong enough to win. Did not show down any bluffs. I was really punishing limpers with junk (there were alot of them). i had really good reads on most of the players. One person called me a bully, another was typing Haha after i folded this hand (i tilted him with a big win). I was not being rude or abusive in any way, and in fact, barely said anything at all during the game. MY OPPONENT I am new to no limit hold'em and did not know any players well before this session. this particular opponent was very loose and called way too much. he made small bets with 2nd pair. called with any piece of the flop. bluffed once all-in (for $7) into paired board. had one "semi-bluff" with bottom pair and a draw. In one hand, he called sizable bets with bottom pair and a 10 high flush draw. When he hit the flush on the river, he did not bet it. in my oppinion he is loose, passive, calls way too much and won't let hands go when he is obviously beaten. THE HAND I make a small raise (2.50) in late with A-10s. Get 5 callers, which is alot for the table. $13.00 in the pot. Flop 10c,8c,5d I make a $6.00 bet and get 2 callers. the opponent described above is one. ($29.00 in the pot). I'm not too worried as both callers are loose and would have bet with a strong hand. Turn is a 4h I make a $15.00 bet. Only the Opponent calls. ($58.00 in the pot) He must have a draw ( which he did not get pot odds for, a small pair with overcard, 2 overcards (not impossible with this guy) River is a Jc (10c, 8c, 5d, 4h, Jc) my opponent goes all-in for $22.00. what do i do? I thought for a long time, and when i had to make a decision, because i was running out of time, i folded. I had only seen this opponent make big bets with strong hands. Any J, 2-pair, straight, or flush beats me. Would anyone have called as this opponent is very loose, and capable of making an all in bluff? mark | ||

| I think that calling here would have been a mistake. You are probably behind and you are getting less than 4:1 pott-odds for your call. Even if your opponent is bluffing this time it is not a total disaster because it might encourage him to bluff all-in at you again sometime when you do have the goods. Good fold, Snorbolus on 7. | It really depends on your stack size, but in general I think this is a good fold. With an opponent like this though you've got to look at the chance that he's decided that he's in for a penny - in for a pound and is desperately trying to steal it. Still, your hand only beats a bluff, so in general a fold here is warranted. It's a difficult decision to make when you can't look at his eyes. on 7. | Probably a good fold, you don't have much of a hand. I suspect he actually made the club draw on the river this time. Better to wait until you have a stronger hand to be making half pot sized bets at multiple opponents though. I think I would have made a large bet on the flop, something like triple the pot, and then backed off if someone called. It's okay to take down a pot with 20+ blinds in it on the flop. That would be my thinking here, just bet enough to try and win it right now, nevermind getting extra bets from opponents. | ||
