| Jake, this is a great question and I am looking forward to other responses. I play a significant amount of online poker and have wondered the same thing myself. As much as I would like the answer to be yes, I do not think that you can make a "good" living playing online. Of course this is realative to what you consider a "good" living. I do think a solid player can win $35,000/yr. but this cetainly won't keep me the lifestyle I have grwon accustmed too. As a professional, my income is significantly more than this on my day job not to mention the value of the benefits. Additonally, I never have a money losing week at work. However, I do think a combination of B&M games and tournaments as well as online games and tournaments could yield much better results. One of the biggest problems with online poker is that the games are not big enough (i.e. $20/$40 is the biggest you can find). Again, I am very intersted in others opinions because I have had success online and would love to find a way to take it to the next level. Good luck. | ||

| You certainly could make a living online. But your best bet is not with tournaments but mostly shorthanded and some ring games. Playing a 5 handed game online you are seeing sometimes three times as many hands(vs. BM) with half as many people. For a winning player with an edge over his opponents this can yield an hourly rate of easily 2-4 BB an hour. Secondly Ultimatebet for one has 30/60 games and most often an 80/160 game with 4-7 players in it. I believe this is the highest active ring game offered online. Pokerstars also has a 30/60. So in short you could easily make 35k a year online if you are a winning player. Just playin 5/10 shorthanded holdem should be enough. Of course youve gotta be a winning player......Daniel | ||

| I for one make over 35K online per year and I very rarely play higher than 5-10. I usually play 3-4 games of 36 holdem at the same time. If you take into account the greater number of hands per hour times multiple tables you are playing the equivalent of somewhere between a 20-40 30-60 B&M game with generally easier competition. 35K is easily obtainable if you are a solid player. | ||

| Although I wouldn't like to advertise what I make, I would like to tell you that 35k a year is easily achievable for a moderately good player. I think one of the biggest obstacles of online play rather than B&M play is the increased need for money management on a psychological players. I have seen many of these moderately-good players around me come to play with me at my limits and then jump up after winning some and get busted when they are playing too high. When you are online, it seems like it is too easy to justify "making a run for it." Furthermore, I think players more often play fatigued online, especially those who have dayjobs, which interferes with your decision making ability. These, however, are just my observations as I never play B&M, so thoughts on those from a casino player would be appreciated. As far as tournaments go, I have my own theories about how the increasing skill level in them leads to an exponential decrease in EV for the quality player so I no longer see them as profitable ventures for the time put in; that idea is probably for another debate in itself. I'm not sure you could make that kind of salary from playing tournaments online, but of course, I'm sure there are some out there. As for time, I put in about 30 hours per week on average, and enjoy my life outside of the game considerably. If I were you, I'd try to just test the waters some by perhaps scheduling yourself for 2 hours a day for several weeks and then try to extrapolate your yearly expectation from that data. Variance will keep it from being totally accurate, but I think it will give you a good understanding of where you are. Regards, NT | ||

| I play against and agree with neteller. If you treat is as a job and work hard and play smart and have the ability then you can make well over 35k a year. Simply playin shorthanded 5/10 10/20 holdem games you average 100-150 hands an hour and I'll leave the calculations up to anyones imagination. Daniel 24 | ||
