It is a LLHE hand that left me wondering.

UTG open limp, UTG+1 raised, I reraised with QsQc, Button and SB cold call, BB folds, UTG and UTG+1 calls. 5 handed with 15 sb in pot.

Flop: Jd Tc 9c

UTG bets out, UTG+1 calls, I raise, fold to SB who check reraise. UTG cap, UTG+1 fold, I and SB call. 3 handed with 28 sb in pot.

Turn: 4d

SB bets, UTG raises, I call, SB reraise, UTG and I call. 3 handed with 23 bb in pot.

River: 5d

SB bets, UTG call, I fold.

SB take it with Td 9d, UTG show 8d 7d.
Would you have played it any different?

Hello DannyBoy

The call on the turn is pretty marginal at best! You may be drawing dead to a King to split and you may (as you did) get caught in the middle. You were getting 7-1 at the point of the call, but there are many negatives against you.

With that much action and absolutely no help on the turn, facing two bets cold I probably give it up right there. There's no way QQ is the best hand at that point, and you're probably up against one if not two made straights. There's possibly a set out there too. I would think that someone, maybe two players have KQ. That leaves you with a handful of dubious outs for half the pot or less. An eight on the river might get you half the pot, or might just cost you more money. A king probably gets you half, but you could be up against someone with AQ who is gambling. Bottom line, you don't have anywhere near the pot odds you might think you have to draw. You're not drawing to the nuts, and not likely drawing to win the whole pot.

I think you made the classic mistake of only considering your own hand. Your first clue should have been when the flop got capped. You must realize at this point, you are not in the lead. I would be thinking along the lines, that I'm chasing a made straight, or at least a set, with an open ender and an overpair, and that is not very good shape to be in. I would have clearly mucked it on the turn, too a bet and raise, especially with the betting still being open behind you. The real problem with the hand, is the fact that someone else might already have flopped the top straight, leaving you only three outs to tie, and those might not be clean outs because of the presence of two two flushes on the board.
