15-30 SB hand, TOM WAGGONER, 1. Mar 2003 01:33

| This was a loose 15-30 HE game. I was in the small blind with 3c5c. Five players limped, and the button raised. I decided to call, anticipating a big pot and good implied odds if I hit. The BB called, as well as all the limpers. The flop was Kc8c2h, I bet, three folded, three called, and the button raised, everyone called. The turn was the Kd. I checked, checked too the button who bets, and I raise and everyone folds. The button flung his cards in the muck, saying he got his aces cracked again. I know this was a very risky play, but it doesn't have to work too often to make it profitable with those odds. Any comments? | ||

| Hi Roy, Yeah, the situation was right. The button had been taking some bad beats, and I had been showing down a lot of winners when I raised. When I checkraised him on the turn, the button actually folded out of turn, because he was pissed. He said I know you got the king, and everyone else folded, then he mumbled the bit about his aces cracked again. I almost hate to pick on somebody who's been run over all night, but I guess that's the nature of the game. By the way, I like your article Real Poker, I have been reading it for years. I especially liked "Up and down and back again," cause I can relate. | ||

Any comments? I think that was a great hand for a loose agressive player (I am one) to make, but I think that your preflop call was a little questionable. Suited one-gappers are pretty marginal even with a lot of limpers and your cards are tiny. With 56 suited I would definitely come in there, but the 35 suited is something I would do very very rarely. That said, if you put the guy on aces and the king comes, great play.
