| Hey all, I've been playing a lot of tournament poker the last couple months and was looking for a little change of pace. I moved some of my money over to planet and sat down at the no-limit ring game. I'm finding that I really enjoy playing no-limit, but I'm also finding I'm pretty clueless on strategy for it. Obviously, playing tight is important (which I'm good at after all those tournament hours), but I know there's a lot more to it (bluffing, trapping, etc). I'm up a whopping $20 after my first few sessions, but I know that I'm only one stupid mistake away from loosing all that (and more). I'd like to study the game some more and perhaps start to play it more regularly. I did some searching on the internet and found Cloutier's book "Championship No-Limit and Pot-Limit Hold'em", which seems to be the authoritative work on the subject. Just wanted to ask (those who've read it), if it's worth the $40 price tag, or if there's other (beter) books on the subject. Thanks in advance for your advice, jason | ||

It gives insight from both TJ and Tom McEvoy and often times they don't necessarily agree on strategy, so you get two ways to play the same hand from very successful players. The only caution that I would give you is that the internet no-limit games (max buy in of $100) are nothing like the B&M games that you see in that with blinds so small and stacks that aren't extensive, many more players are willing to see the flop, so there is a lot more multi-way action. So, the strategies represented in the book, while still applicable for turn/river play (after some of the limpers are forced out), are not as effective for pre-flop and flop play on the internet (IMHO). Still worth the $$ and the read though. Good luck. Steve | ||
