Veteran players- did big bet poker get killed by limit?, Easy E, 24. Feb 2003 19:28

Part of the previous RGP thread mentioned, Poker King made a statement along the lines of: there were a lot more big bet games (in America, he's an American evidently) 20 years ago, and that limit games killed off the potential for growth in big bet games.

For those of you playing 20-30 years ago:
a) Is the statement about less big-bet games true?
b) If so, what were the reasons for their demise?
i) Siphoning off by limit games,
ii) bad players wiped out too easily,
iii) not enough rake for the house, or
iv) something else?
