| I'm not a big tourney player mainly due to the fact that I don't know enough about the stratagy involved in tourneyment play, but I have played a few sit and gos on Ultimate Bet and faired pretty well. One thing I've noticed at the smaller buy-in sit and gos there is that there are always some people, even though they just bought in, that seem to have a race to see who can get knocked out first (chip dumping maybe i don't know) so I tend to play fairly tight in the beginning and let these maniacs finish there race only getting in when I know I have a strong hand. | ||

When you do have a good hand, sure play it...try to get some action, but I'm really happy in a T1000 tournament that starts with 5-10 blinds if I have T800 left when two players are gone. As long as you're not in danger of being eaten by the blinds, it is very easy to hang on and money in 3rd place. Occasionally you'll get lucky and double up early on and then have a shot at winning the thing. | ||

| I play the single table tournaments at pokerroom.com. I would say the key to winning those tournaments is to play tight for most of the game (at least until the last few are left). You have to be very agressive when you have a hand, don't settle for betting it out and having everyone call, if you've got a premium hand go for check/raises, re-raise, etc...get your money in the middle! Also, you need to watch for people who won't defend when they're in the blinds and then hammer them when you have a chance, stealing the blinds is a vital factor in who makes it to money. Hope this helps, Jason | ||

| Behaviour in single table tournaments vary directly with what is at stake. Lower amounts, 50% of the players will play "anything" so tight is the only way to go. Higher amounts the hands get better played with a littlemore discrimination, but here again, when the blinds are low, some trash gets played in the hope of doubling through, as in the example given recently (with full odds analysis, I may add) by the poker writer Paul Samuels (England), on playing 4 -6 offsuit. Here is the link: http://www.pokerpages.com/articles/archives/samuel12.htm You might find his analysis and math interesting, ... but do the calculations as he is known to make mistakes occasionally. When you get to half the table and have adjusted your card values accordingly for a smaller table, you can be a little more aggressive. gl. | ||
