How should I play heads up Omaha/8?, Easy E, 21. Feb 2003 20:29

Just finished a few hours of play low-limit O/8 against a guy, and I wondered if there was a preferred strategy choice I should be making.

I was raising a lot pre-flop, but he'd fold a lot as a result (often he would fold into my blind a lot also- pretty tight).
Is it better to trap with many hands, raise with a mix of good, great and mediocre hands preflop, then see where the flop leads me?
What type of hands should I be just calling with, besides the strong low hands with suits and Aces? How weak can I go in calling the blind?

----
Also, here's a hand I wasn't sure about. I get A2sK5c in the blind, reraise 2 times and then call (i'm assuming he has A2 or A3 with little cards). Flop comes 75K with two low spades. I raised the button's bet. Ks on the turn, I bet. K on the river, I check-raise and he folds.

My question- when do I stop raising, if ever, pre-flop with an A2low-double suited hand?

First of all, if you're playing heads-up and your opponent is too tight, then you need to give him a lot of respect. When he does play a hand, ditch your cards unless they are good. I would say attack him more preflop and then get really weak when he comes back at you.

As for your second question, I'm not an omaha expert, so all I'll say is that heads up A2KX double suited with the ace and king is a monster...it really is. I'd push the hand quite a bit, even against a tight player. I think you played it just fine. But again, I'm not a real omaha player, so there are probably a lot better opinions to get on this one.
