hold'em button play, matt, 21. Feb 2003 09:19

Hey all,

I'd like to get input on button play, especially from Roy and Jim. How do you open from the button with at least one blind who drastically overcalls (ex. T7o, any suited face card, etc.)? Let's also say that there is a 0% chance of taking the pot down on the flop. Obviously I'll raise my premium hands, but what about questionable hands that are probably the best hand, but not great like 22-66, Ax suited, QTo, JTo. I'd certainly like to play QJo against a calling station, but limping with decent would seem like it gives too much away about my premiums.

Thanks for the input

If the blind is a calling station, then I would suggest over-agressing. I'd be raising any hand with an ace and any pair here. On the flop I would play him hard and not back off unless he plays back at me. The way to deal with calling stations is to be weak and agressive with them, since when they bet out, they are likely holding the best hand, but they will call with total garbage.

T7o and any suited face card is not "drastically overcalling" if up against an opener on the button. If its an error at all, its a slight error.
