| I'm in a situation where I have a pair of 2-hour windows in most days to play online. My question is, is 2 hours enough time? Or am I at the whim of catching good cards during that time to succeed? I find myself loosening up a tad during these shortened sessions, and I know it's costing me bets. But even if I tighten up and play like I do when I have several hours in front of me, does playing just an hour or two at a time still put me at a disadvantage? | ||

| I find that 2 hours is more than enough time for me to win my hourly rate. I can tell in the first 30 minutes what kind of session I am in. Of course where you play and with whom is more important then the time..... | ||

| I think many people play far too long. MC himself is famous for his quote about if you find a good game you should get toothpicks to prop your eyes open, but my own experience is that there's always a good game another day. They just don't really seem to quit. I find that a two-hour session or so is just about perfect and that's about an adult attention span anyway. So many things last about that long--like a movie--that you can be sure you're still attentive, whereas if you go longer it *does* drop off even though you might not notice. So I wouldn't worry about it. My own ideal would be two two-hour sessions on any given day I played. tvp (I'd rather hang out with Roy Cooke anyway.) | ||

Two hours is a bit short, but I don't think that's terribly bad. Most days I play a 3 hour session before starting my day job. It's ok if you already know most of the players who are going to be at your table because you need less time sitting in the weeds figuring out the table. Of course factoring in things like gas, etc, may make the 2 hours difficult to profit by. I look at it this way: if I play a 3 hour morning session at the 10-20 I am going to make over $60, on average. Take out gas and I've still got a red bill in my pocket. If I skip the morning and play a longer session after work, I burn the same amount of gas and spend an extra hour or more cooling my heals waiting for a table. And then, the table isn't full of sleepyheads, so it's harder to make money. I'd rather play an optimal short session than a suboptimal long one. Likewise, I think playing when you're tired is a bad idea, unless you're in a ridiculous berry patch. | ||

| I usally restrict my online sessions to about an hour, unless i'm at a really good table. I find that after an hour i usually stop paying as much attention to the game as i should. I keep notes on players and the plays they make, try to read every hand, and always keep tabs on pot odds even when i'm not in the pot. This is all very useful information i use to beat my opponents, but with about 50 hands an hour, and players changing regularly, my brain starts to fry after an hour. So i limit my time to about 1 hour sessions. However, i try to get about 2-3 session in each day. There is no difference between playing 1 10-hour session and 10 1-hour sessions. Its still 10 hours of poker and you should not play looser for any time restraint reason. mark | ||
