| Hi Jake Because the number of hands is greater on inline...the swings are also much greater. Roy Cooke on 18. Feb 2003 05:48 jake-free wrote: > why would one play lower limits online than at B&M[offline]? > what does it take to move up to play higher stakes? | ||

I play lower limits online than when at B&M because the players are much worse, i risk less, and win more. When I lived near a B&M it was a huge struggle(for me) to win 1 BB an hour, but online i am averaging about 7 BB/hour at the low limits. In fact I just played a session where I won 19 BB an hour! 7 BB at the 1-2(sometimes $2-4) table is $14.00. Since I am Canadian and play on American sites, this is more like $22.00 to me. So I can go to a casino and play the $10-20 hold'em and struggle to make 1 BB/hour or play on line and win about the same at a $1-2 table. Some of this is due to the fact that you play many more hands per hour online. > what does it take to move up to play higher stakes? a big bankrolll and the ability to win at your current level. | i do move up occassionally, but only for a short time. I've only recently started taking detailed notes and recording my performance. As boring as it sounds, I am taking a slow approach to moving up. I want to be absolutely sure i can beat the game at each level and understand the differences in how the game is played at each level. I've set some goals for myself and when I acheive those goals i will move up. for example one goal is to beat the $1-2 game for 5 BB/hour over 15 hours per week for 2 months. I know 5 BB/hour is alot but this week i'm at 15 BB/ hour. I've move up in the past to the 3-6 and occassional 5-10 game and lost a good portion of my bankroll. I'm just taking a slow and methodical approach this time. Plus, I know I can beat the game I play. In two or 3 more weeks, if everything goes well, i'll make a permament move up to 2$2-4. Mark

I don't plan to even try the 20-40 at Brantford unless a) I have posted 500 hours at 10-20 making at least 1 BB/hr or b) I recongize the players at the table to make the game ludicrously good. The latter is how I moved to 10-20, but there seems to be a world of difference between 5-10->10-20 and 10-20->20-40. I would imagine that the move to 50-100 is something I may never be ready to make and I can accept that.
