| I was hoping I could get some recomendations on where to get a start at learning 7 card strategy. I prefer to play hold'em, but it seems most home games I run into they are playingseven card or some variation (hi-lo, chicago, etc...). I've seen books on seven card for advanced players but I am by no means advanced at the game. Also I would like to start learning Omaha. If anyone has any info i'd appreciate it. Thanks Jeremy | ||

| Hi Jeremy, Send me an email and I'll send you an ebook which forms the core of a "real" book on 7-Stud to be published in the Fall. Ashley on 10. Play some free online that will get you intimate with the 7CStudHi game structures betting etc. I would at least read George percys book. It prescribes excruciatingly tight starting hand criteria which is usually correct in a typical weak tight game with a sky high rake. Roy West's "7 card stud 42 Lessons" or blue book will help you *begin* to think somewhat like a stud player . I personally recommend this book to beginners because it includes much of the other "stuff" about stud poker you might need. As well as a example of basic play for each starting hand on a round by round basis. they are playing seven card or some variation (hi-lo, chicago, etc...). > I've seen books on seven card for advanced players but I am by no means advanced > at the game. Online free play is only good in terms of learning how the cards fall...and you can do that by reading about it once. People play so badly online for free that you'll have no way of knowing what to do. Read a book on the subject...any book that anybody recommends is probably good enough for a start. There's tonnes of printed material, but learning from those who aren't good enough to want to play for money can be a way to learn wrong things. | ||

There's tonnes of printed material, but learning from those who aren't good enough to want to play for money can be a way to learn wrong things. Actually there is really very little well written and mathematically correct literature published about 7 CSHi or any stud game for that matter. But there is some. the books I mentioned are what your *best* LL opposition have probably read or studied. Even if it isnt 100% correct all the time it pays to know what your opponents probably studying. | ||

| Be careful about this. Just because something is written in a book doesn't make it right. In fact, it can be destructive. There at least a few books on hi lo that give very bad advice like play Hi Lo as if you're playing for both Hi and Lo. These books erroneously have playerscalling Third Street bets with pairs, 8 lows and the like. -- absolutely wrong advice. Also, you have to make sure that you're reading about the modern casino game of hi lo: no declare, cards speak, 8 low or better. There are still many books out there that refer to a form of Hi Lo you never see in the casino -- either declare or no qualifier. Ashley Adams on 12. Feb 2003 19:16 timmer wrote: > on 12. | A good first book on Stud Hi Lo is Coddington's 40 or so page "pamphlet" available at Gambler's book store. TwoPlusTwo has a better one, geared for higher stakes games. Ashley Adams on 12.
