| When betting in a game with no cards showing, or using community card what is the proper betting order round to round. If you've had two opening checks on a betting round and the third person bet does the next round begin with the fourth person (person after the opening bettor from the round before) or does it go back to the second checker from the round before... Thanks | ||

| Thanks Roy, maybe you could answer another question for me. I'm a begginer and have alot of simple questions, hope you don't mind. The question is what does "under the gun" mean. I'm guessing when its your turn to bet, call, or raise. Thanks | ||

| a player 'under the gun' is the first player to act in any betting round, regardless of the form of poker. in flop games or draw games with blinds, it's the player left of the big blind on the first round, and the player left of the dealer (or buck) in subsequent rounds. | ||

In stud type games the highest or lowest up-card showing has the right to lead. However the leading hand changes with the highest or lowest hand showing on each round. The highest hand on the 6st card (4th up card) acts first on the river (which is a better place to be in than most stud players realize) this structure creates additional action and adds a additional element of ah... ummm... excitement to the game. | ||

| Thanks Timmer , I understand betting order for the casino utilizing the button. This question was for home games where the deal rotates and its dealers choice, draw games, stud games, community card games. How do you rotate the betting. In the stud games its obviously the high hand showing but how about the community card games. We usually start the opening round to the left of the dealer but each additional round is to the left of the opening bettor from the round before. So if the first two players checked on the first round and the third bet, on the second round the fourth player would bet first, is this correct? Someone suggested it should go back to the second checker from the first round, another said it stays to first player on the left of the dealer, and another said the last raiser opens the betting (I believe that is true for draw games). Can anyone clarify. Since its home games and the games can go between stud, draw and community card games, in theory someone may never get to open the betting without it rotating someway within the community games. (For instance if the guy to my right always plays stud and I never get the best hand showing, usually my luck, LOL, I may never get to open a bet in a game,in theory) Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Or is it just always the first to the left of the dealer and thats just the way it goes, chalk it up to bad seating position. I just started playing in a regular home game thats been played for years and they do the community games, Texas, Omaha, and some others the way I mentioned at the begining. Although they are aware its always to the left in the casino | ||

| TJ, In my home game, when checking is allowed and it is not a stud game, then the person to the dealer's left bets and continues to be under the gun unless he is raised. In that case, that person is under the gun. Likewise, in a multiple raiser situation, the person to raise last is the first to bet next round. Now for the twist. I like to play must bet games in which there is no checking. You don't want to bet, you fold. In this case, the person on the dealers left is UTG on the first round only, then the person to his left and so on. Since we play a lot of high low games, we've added another twist in that the person to bet or raise on the last bettiing round has to declare high or low first and then we go in order around the table. Not fair you say, well we also play a lot of family card games with an 8 must on the low, and a flush must on the high so there is very little "backing in". We don't play hold em at home, because this is a typical loose home game and hold em is too complex for the average guy I play with so the above rules and games makes a lot os sense and is very fun (and had been profitable) But, we only play a 2-5 betting structure so no one gets killed Hope this helps | ||
